Well some of them can get a bit neurotic about it. My mom's cocker spaniel is one of those dogs. If he even thinks you've touched the flash light, all hell breaks loose! Of course, this dog is in serious need of obedience and manners training so that could have something to do with his spazzing when he thinks there is a flashlight being picked up.
I actually find laser pointers to be a useful tool. I taught most of the dogs I have had to go to where the laser is though I only have one dog doing it now. This is called target training. It is very useful when you have lost your voice and I know several people who use it for their deaf dogs. I use it with commands to get my dog to do a specific task such as pick up a certain object or go lie in a certain area. If you use this, teach your dog that shining it on people means to CALMLY go to that person and POLITELY put his/her head or paw on their lap or the person could be accidentally injurred by an over-eager pooch.

I think so! My rhodesian love it! I pick it up off the counter and their heads go down and they start looking for it, then the look back up at me until I shine it on the floor and move it around. They both like to pounce on it and chase it across the room. They are very smart though...I can move it on a wall and they won't run into the walll like some dumb dogs do, lol!

Dogs and cat love it, and no don't stop, just make sure you keep it out of their eyes, it can cause damage. I had a dog that went wild with it chased it everywhere, including up the door . . .Yes, I said up the door, about 4 and a half to 5 feet up. So funny!
I also have a Senegal parrot who loves it, there are times he screams for it. Don't you love our pets, the fun we get out of them!

They can go crazy after a while. My brothers Pit Bull loves the laser, but sometimes out of the blue she'll run around like she saw it, but theres nothing there, or if your holding a pen in your hand she'll stare at it like it's the laser pointer like shes waiting for you to shine the laser. I don't think its very harmful though. And it's good exercise (for your pets, not for you), so it's really up to you whether you want to keep using it or not.

My dog loves it too. I have a black Lab and it's a wonderful way for him to get his excercise without going outside. Just make sure they don't look at it. And, if you do any hunting with your dog you might not want to play this. My brother's dog stands in front of guns now because of it.

Oh yeah, it can be like a squeek toy for some. My brother-in-law's shelty know when you pick up anything that looks like the laser pointer pen and will start jumping around and barking until you play with her with the laser.

My border collie loves laser beams! I have run out of batteries a few times already. It's fine as long as you don't point the beam in their eyes.

No, it's a great way to play. Just make sure not to get it in their eyes.
My cat is convinced the red dot lives under a box in our living room because we always start it and end it there. He has destroyed the box. lol
