He is mouthing you...this is a way that a pup gains attention.
Though the breed is meant to grab hold of a thing or person to help them, it may be difficult to stop all mouthing. Put a leash on him, and correct him when he does it...quick pull and leash with a sharp "NO".
It is good if you can curb this before he is big. Many people misinterpret mouthing as a bite. But having been bitten myself, there is a BIG difference. One is painful, the other is slobbery.
Great and majestic breed...just carry alot of kleenex with you always, they really do slobber.

it might be because of its age, if its just a puppy, that sounds like normal puppy behaviour, if its not the dog may feel neglected, or deprived of attension.
it cold also be instinct, they do originally come from newfoundland, and were and still are great dogs who save peoples life from drowning. I would sggest getting him a toy, and telling him firmly NO
good luck

Great Danes do this too, I guess they think they are playing with you. But I find it really annoying. Specially with all the drool.
Both breeds tend to be "mouthy", which terrifies some people who think they are biting. I find it easiest to distract them with a toy.

Don't worry, he's just playing. It's their way of having fun, dogs chew each other when playing, but they don't get that that's not our way of having fun. It's gentle to them, but it's not so fun having scratches all over for us :) Make sure you say "NO" loud and clear and push him down when he tries to play like that. Get him a toy and offer it to him when he seems up to playing. He'll probably like it more then your arms and hair. Just be patient and you'll have a wonderful time together!
