I just rescued a little Shih tsu from Paws'; She had been severley neglected and all her hair had to be shaved off. Does anyone know about how long it will take to grow back. The poor thing looks like a rat and has to wear a little coat to stay warm.

Anyone have any advise on what i should do once my female puppy goes in heat. I have a male maltese and a female yorkie - both are 5 months old right now. SO I expect (from what I understand) my female should go into heat when she is around 6 months old. I WOULD LOVE for them to mate (and have morkie pups) at least once but dont I have to wait until she is about 2 years old? SO my question is WHAT do I do until then? How do I keep her from getting pregnant? Do i have to find someones house to keep my male at while she is in heat? AND how do I know when she is coming into heat? Is there a warning sign? I have no clue as to any of this, can someone help?

I take my dog to be neutered on the 20th :-( He is an 11 month old small chi mix. This procedure is completely safe right? I mean has anyone ever had any "horror" stories? I'm sure it would help to not know but I want to be prepared. I am praying that everything will go okay though. I'm sure I'm overreacting but I'm really nervous.

Help please.. I saved a 1 year old puppy from the pound. I felt so bad for her she was shaking in the corner and scared to death I thought she was abused. The pound said the owner had a stroke and someone brough her and 4 other dogs in. She is actually housebroken so she couldnt be a stray. she is TERRIFIED to walk on the leash, go outside, and she goes into a corner in the house and will not move. If I pick her up and put her in the open she will lay where I put her only. She will scoot to her food when she doesnt think you are watching. My older dog trys to get her to play but she just lays there and looks at him. It is so sad. I am at a loss. She trys to run under cars outside or if she sees a corner she trys to go there. She will NOT walk on the leash at all I have to carry her to the grass. I know I can love her enough and I have patience I just feel a little helpless and so sad that she wont move from where i put lay her. She is not mean at all but like a little scared mouse

My pomeranian comes from a long line of show dogs. She has been SO easy to leash train and whenever she sees alot of people or gets a treat, she begins prancing and posturing like a little showdog (eventhough I've never specifically trained her).

Is this because of her blood line or just a pomeranian trait?

Boo is a papillon puppy, and not yet fully leash trained. She pulls, which is why I don't want to use just a collar, but her harness is rubbing away the fur behind her front legs. We've had a different harness, the type make of what leashes are usually made of *i beleive the term is webbing, but i don't beleive everyone would know that* and she chewed thropugh two of those.

Are there other options for walking small dogs?

I have been working at home since before we got our puppy. The puppy (a Pomeranian) is now almost 4 months old. I plan on taking classes that I estimate would keep me out my home for 5 hours every weeknight. **Is my puppy old enough to be alone for that long? The puppy will be in a pen with water and a wizdog (litterbox). **At what age can I leave him alone for 8 hrs? Of course, I'll walk him before I leave and when I get home. **At what age do dogs need to be fed only twice per day?

I'm moving to the beach soon, and, consequently, a big city. I want a big dog for company and also for protection, but I also want to be able to take him to the beach and have fun.

Any suggestions?

Vet says I need to spend $300 to have him anesthetize my pup so he can pull out a baby thooth that is not dropping out naturally so the adult tooth can come. I looked at it and that appears to be the problem. I am wondering how necessary is this for my dog to feel OK and be healthy? I have had many dogs and never had this problem before. and my vet wants me to do many things I think unecessary; I prefer to spend money on caring for people vs dogs, for them I like to do the basics like shots, etc. Your thoughts on how necessary I have him put my dog under for this operation?

We have a 5 mo old Golden Retriever. We don't have a fence. And I think she gets bored in the house. So, I put her out everyother hour or so on the lead staked in the back yard. #1 is that okay... nice/mean? #2 our house is the first one when you enter our subdivision. does that look trashy? #3 how long can i leave her on the lead outside by herself? Thanks! We will be getting a fence in a couple of months. And if you're wondering if I let her out in cold weather I don't.... Only when it's nice I leave her out.

Before anyone starts getting "out of control" about mix breeding!!!
I do know the papastzu is a mix between a Shih Tzu & Papillon.
I know alot of people do not support this new trend of mix breeding, and I am well aware of the negative feedback concerning this subject...so if that is your answer to my question please do not respond!! I am looking for any pics someone might know where to find of the papastzu breed.
I have a Shih Tzu and my mom has a Papillon. They have been best friends since birth and are a year old. We breed them...or basically "they breed" ..and I can not find any pics of this breed. Any info is greatly appreciated!!
Thanks.

For the record, I personally feel that the articles are very harsh and one-sided, and I'd prefer an article alongside that highlighted the good that is done by the kennel club. That said, they do raise some interesting points. (and inspired me to ask a few questions).

I was wondering what the kennel club, and other people who know about dogs thought of this.

She keeps throwing up foaming spit (she doesn't have rabies) but she also has bad stomach problems and she doesn't eat anything irregular. She is also one years old. What is this?

My puppy is just as cute and cuddly when he wants to be. He is paper trained, he sits and love to play fetch. However, he growls at us all. The biting is very limited because we use the "ouch" concept to teach him NO. I just don't know how to stop him from growling. Last night he was really vicious with me when i went to get him out of my daughters lap. It really scared me. I just could not believe he was acting like that. After i composed myself, I picked him up with two hands telling him "NO". I was scared, he was scared, but eventually we both settled down. It seems like he does this in the evenings, so maybe he really tired. But that's not excuse for such behavior. He also growled about 2:00 in the morning after my husband took him to potty and put the puppy in our bed. After the puppy did not get comfortable, when my husband went to pick him up to put him back in his crate, which is in our bedroom, he growled at him. HELP!!
