My 7 week old puppy (whom was abandoned in my backyard last week) is 10 lbs. I want to know how big she is going to get. Her paws are not real big but she looks like a shepherd mix.

There's no way to tell how big a mutt puppy will get if you haven't seen both parents. There's also no way to tell if it has a purebred somewhere in its genes, and if it does, there's no way to tell WHAT purebred it is.

But there are some methods you can use to guess. One way is by her paw size. If she has big clunky paws, she'll probably grow big. If her skin is really loose, it means she'll have to do a lot of growing to grow into it. You can also weigh her at 14 weeks of age and then double it for a really rough estimate of what she might weigh as an adult. Just keep in mind that none of these are completely accurate, they'll just give you a rough idea. Check out the link in my source list for some good ways to tell how big she might grow.

Her size will depend on what she is mixed with. You said she looked as though she is shepherd mix, if that's indeed what is in her blood line, she could be a big dog. If however she has some medium dog, such as a cocker spaniel in her blood lines, she will be medium. Its hard to say with mixed dogs as to how big or small they will be when they become adults. Like I said, its based on what is in her blood line.

Your vet can give you a better idea once
evaluated, but if you think there is shepherd in her,
I would think minimally 50 lbs or so.

Congratz!

Well my rotti pit bull cross was around that weight, we thought she would be huge but she's only 50 pounds with alot of muscle, she's very strong.

The vet could probably tell you. =)
