Is this a good idea or not. The vet is not staffed 24hrs and she would be alone anyways. I think she would do better at home where I can watch her closely. The vets secretary said today that its not permitted, that they keep her there two nights, the first to get her use to the new environment (and for blood tests) the second to make sure she is okay. The vet has a good reputation, however I think she would do better with me that night. I would leave her there the whole day, just until closing. My pup has never been alone and I want her home with me. What should I do. I would just like to have some opinions. My pup is 8 months old now. Love her so much.
Worried mum..

my beagle puppy is 10 weeks old. i've had her for 2 1/2 weeks. She understands that when she goes outside shes there to go potty and she goes right away and understands the comand. she still has accidents in the house quite often though. I don't know how to teach her to go to the door or to tell me that she needs to go. sometimes i will have her in a confined area where she can't get to the door anyways and I don't know when she needs to go. any advice?? also do you have any advice on the best way to punish or to get her to acknowledge that she has done something wrong when she goes in the house? help!! please! thanks

First, I am in Germany, and Germans do not like to sell dogs to Americans. Well I really want a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, in the paper it advertised diffrent dogs for sale, vet checked, with papers, up to date on shots. So, I called the guy. He said I am not the breeder, I am the go between. He said he will email pics of dogs, then deliver them. I want to see all the dogs together to choose the best one, but it does not look like I will get to. I really want a cav. I already have a westie. I can not have kids, so my dogs are the closest I'll ever get to having a baby. Also, my hubby fights in Iraq and leaves me here for a year at a time by myself, so my dogs keep me company. This may help to explain my eagerness. The last I spoke to him, the go between was lastnight. He still has not emailed pics or called me. What do I do. Please advice. I am already sad so dont be mean to me. Are there breeders in America who will ship to me? I know I still cant see the dogs.

I live in an apartment and plan to get a dog here in the next few months. I don't know what breed to look for. My ideal dog is a lab BUT my parents think it's too big for an apartment. I need a dog that will be good in an apartment and that is big enough to go running with me. (2 miles usually) 1. Could a lab be a good apartment dog? & 2. What would be a good apartment dog big enough to go running with me?
(little things also... I want to keep whatever I have when I have kids so I need that to be okay, also I need something that could maybe be okay around cats (I know not always) but it would make a trip home with me in December for the holiday break)
Thanks for your help.

I am one of those people who think a shelter hound is as good of a pet as any of the wonderful pure-breeds out there. I feel that our society should take care of the animals we already have before we bring more into the world. I tend to advocate adopting shelter animals over buying from pet stores. And to further grow my confusion, we now have "designer dogs" showing up in the arms of celebrities and their fans alike.

Please tell me WHY one would choose an animal as a fashion accessory or because it is the latest trend? What does one do with the "designer dog" when he doesn't match one's new wardrobe or is now so-yesterday?

What is the intent of breeding a "designer dog" other than to fill a niche in the pet market?

thanks for your time!!

Is it now a closed shop, or could new breeds still become registered?

I suspect that a breed standard would have to be drawn up and that the dog would have to breed true to it. Would there be any other requirements or criteria to be fulfilled?

For the record, I am not a breeder, nor do I ever intend to be, I'm just curious to know.

I recently updated a question about two days ago. I asked "How do i feed kibbles to my five-week old Chihuahuas." I've tried the methods that I got as answers but i can't get them to eat it. Now I'm wondering if i can give my puppies canned mushy food from Pedigree. Can I? If so how much?

I really want to get a dog of my own but I don't know which kind. I already have a family dog, a toy fox terrier/chihuahua mix and I like to play with him alot. I want another small dog (smaller than my other dog who is 20 lbs.), a dog I can carry around in those cute purse looking dog bags. I want a dog that is friendly and low maintence. I have allergies and can't afford constant grooming so I must keep that in mind. I also want a breed of dog that is not TOO prone to disease/illness.

I want a dog that will watch tv with me and can sleep in my room and isn't super hipper. I've been looking at pugs and tibetan spaniels because I like how they look but they have a few issues. What kind of dog do you think is right for me?

Ok, my friend has 4 day old pups, the mother is a golden retriever, and the dad(s) are a redish & white hunting dog (with spots, a very long tail and legs, maybe he's a pointer, or something like that?) and a rottie. I know the pups have both dads since half of the pups look like each. None look like mom.
Some of the puppies have very short, docked-looking tails. Where did this come from, how common is it, and how could this have happened throughout the bloodlines??? I believe each of the dogs are full blooded. I know it's a crazy mix and anything could have happened, but my friend is astounded by this phenomonon.
I appriciate this help, and my friend will too! Thanks in advanced for the answers!
;o)

I grew up with dogs so I absolutely love them and I'll be living by myself for the first time, so I need the company (and maybe protection?) Problem is, my schedule is heavy and sporadic (working on PhD), I'll be in an apartment and I'm willing to train but not sure how. Overall, I dont want the puppy/dog to go nuts, so I'm trying to make the best decision for me and the dog. Suggestions, PLEASE!!!
