based on the dogs you now have I would not recommend a Min Pin. As a former long time breeder Min Pins do not realize they are small dogs and being so get themselves into trouble easily. They are NOT hyper but are in fact energetic breed of dog that does require a secured min pin escape proof fenced yard. They are hunters and site dogs so anytime they see something of interest they will bolt. Makes no difference if it is into the street or into attack mode against a much larger dog. They are one of the hardest breeds to house train. Though extremely intelligent, they are also extremely stubborn. By nature they do not like to be handled much do to the way they were bred. They are extremely independent and prefer to do what they want when they want to do it. If it is a true Pin in that I mean reflects all the naturally attributes that a Pin should possess than it will try your patience on a regular basis. It will need to always be on a halter not collar leash when in public to avoid bolting off and in fact very few ever respond to call back until they get older. Average life span is 12 to 14 years. Age life spans are based not on breed size but breed activity or energy level. Pins are highly energetic by nature and therefore can hurt themselves easily. Their leg bone structure is inherited from the Italian Greyhound which is part of their lineage. The legs can be very fragile due to poor downsize breeding done over the last several years. Luxating patella and Leg Pertheis along with premature occular degeneration are medical issues in this breed that can create real issues. Base on the animals you currently have you will find a Pug to be more suitable based on their overall demeanor. Good Luck.

Pug all the way. They are very cute, loyal and funny. They are excellent family dogs and are great with cats and children. The only draw back to a Pug is all of their breathing and eye problems. You must wash the wrinkles on the face of the Pug to prevent infection. They can be a bit slow to housebreak but are very smart. The Pug also gains weight VERY easily (which can lead to obesity or diabetes) so don't feed the Pug too much.

Min Pins are very loyal, protective and intelligent. Some Min Pins can be overly protective and/or dog aggressive. They are good with non-canine pets and OLDER children. They are easy to train but can be very stubborn. The Min Pin can also gain weight easily so again, don't overfeed this breed.

I have two "miniature pinschers" although mine are gigantic haha. I love them very much! Very cuddly and loving dogs. As I used to work at a boarding and daycare facility for dogs I have been able to come in contact with every breed imaginable. I LOVE BOTH breeds, however, pugs take more care than minpins. You have to keep their faces immaculate so that they don't get infections in their wrinkles. Pugs have some interesting attributes, such as snoring and farting A LOT. They have a raspy breathing that sounds like they are asthmatic, and because they swallow so much air they do tend to be on the gassy side. Both dogs are equally energetic, both bark a lot, but minpins tend to be healthier. I may sound biased but I look for health of a breed before anything, minpins have very minor genetic issues, while pugs have problems all over the place. Either breed would be awesome! I would go to a dog park and talk to owners, and meet their dogs so that you can make the best choice for your lifestyle! Good luck!

I owned a min-pin for a short period of time. In my experience, he was very hyper, easy to housebreak, protective to the point of snipping at children at other animals, very "yappy". These dogs are easy to train because they want to please you. They have few health problems and don't shed alot. They will chew up everything that you own so you can't let them have the run of the house.

I now own a pug. She wouldn't bite a flea. She is silly, good-natured, LOVES attention, children and other animals. She was hard to housebreak. This breed cares more about you pleasing them than them pleasing you. They housebreak easier with treats or excessive praise. Basically, you have to teach them that good behavior means there is "something in it for them" lol. They shed ALOT and can be prone to health problems associated with the breed. She loves having toys and has never been bad about chewing up stuff around the house.

I prefer the pug to the min-pin because they are just fun dogs to have around, very playful and you don't have to worry about them getting along with other critters or small kids.

If you want more info on these breeds go the the AKC website and it will tell you any health problems associated with the breed.

Good luck!

They are both good dogs both equally good family dogs, min pin as long as it isnt pesterd, the pug can not be out in hot humid weather, because of its pushed in nose its nails and teeth need special attention, they shed alot so need to be brushed atleast 2x's a week.. they respond really really well with basic training and if you use a gentle hand very sensitive to your tone of voice so you shouldnt be harsh their learning rate is very high are suited well to live in an apartment their health issues are epilepsy, skin conditions and luxating patella they call it and that is a health concern w/ the min pin also which is a knee cap that slide in and out of place..a pugs life span is anywhere between 12-14 yrs. Min pins are good house dogs and very good watch dogs they need like vigorous exercise so they need to run and play and go for daily walks their learning ability is also very high but obedience level is very low health concerns like i said are also patella luxation and eye problems, life span 14-15 yrs

Pugs are really cute and lots of fun to play with. Also get along pretty well with other dogs and cats and if you have kids they are good with them. Min Pins are cute to but they seem to be a lot more shy and quiet unless you get one of the hyper active ones.

If you have small kids I would go with the pug mini pins are real protective & they dont like everyone.Pugs are grea dogs for the family the only draw back is rhe maintaing them.Wrinkle dogs need lots of tratments for the wrinkles & if you get a light one you will see the brown tear eye like a poodle.Get a shep.

Min Pin.
Pugs have weird breathing problems because they're faces are so squashed in.. unless you find one with less of a squashed face, but they still do.. and they can get infected with all the wrinkles if not cleaned properly.
They're cute though.
My mom's friend has minature pinschers and they are very sweet --- actually, the female is super sweet while the male is a little ornery. I guess it depends on the individual. You can ask the breeder for a sweeter one if that's what you prefer; the breeder should have recorded temperaments for each puppy to better suit clients.
Oh but whatever you chose. =)
