I recently updated a question about two days ago. I asked "How do i feed kibbles to my five-week old Chihuahuas." I've tried the methods that I got as answers but i can't get them to eat it. Now I'm wondering if i can give my puppies canned mushy food from Pedigree. Can I? If so how much?

I have a Jack Russell Terrier who had puppies almost 6 weeks ago. I pretty much feed the puppies whatever they will eat just to give mom some relief. They really like the wet food I give them, and they also try to eat the dry food but it's usually too hard for them. I would try a better canned food then Pedigree. Go to your local pet store (I recommend Petsmart) and get some canned wet food. The people there suggested Science Diet since it's waaaaaay better for your dog.

five weeks old is still too young for the little chihuahuas to begin eating kibbles. instead if they don't have their mother around anymore for her to feed them then your best bet would be to feed them milk you know the kind that you buy at the supermarket for yourself. maybe even mix it up with the mushy food and just give them the smallest amount that looks like its satisfying enough for them. you have to be careful though and you need to watch them every second of the time that you are feeding them because they will over eat and that can harm them. puppies don't know when they are full and if they fill up too much they will throw up and it will not be a pretty sight. therefore my conclusion is milk and mushy food but a small amount. you need to make an assumption on how much they need regarding how big they are. being five weeks old and chihuahuas i assume they are fairly small therefore they don't need a lot. what they do need is small amounts at various times of the day.

Feeding 5 week old pups is easy. put water in the kibble let it turn mushy put a little blueberry, raspberry or blackberry jam in the mixture. Shove the pups nose in it to get them to taste it. They sould eat it without a problem. If you want to feed canned food do the same add a little water and som jam mix it up. I do this all the time. I breed labradors but it will work on all breeds. As far a how much read the can. Use pedigree puppy.

I don't know what other told you to do but I'm hoping they were at least some what right.
But if their sugestions didn't work then sure try the puppy food in a can. Just mush it up really well. Please dont add milk to the mush.
For 4 puppies start wil 1/2 a can and see if they will even eat it. If they do give them the rest of the can.
If they dont seem to like it at first get some on your finger and put it in each of the puppies mouth. Maybe they dont know it's food???

everything I have read or been told, is that any puppy undera year shouldnt have any moist food, it will mess up their stomach because they are not developed enough , and it will cause severe digestion probs, esp diarrhea, sometimes even with blood and mucus in it. I would bottle feed, they have mothers milk and supplements at CO - OP and vets and other pet places, but never no moist food. They shouldnt even have dry food until about 8-10 weeks and then it should be something that doesnt have "parts" in it. Pedigree is the worst about that, chicken heads, feet, etc. Our vet gave us something called "max?" or it had max in it, it is for small breed puppies . I would check with my vet.

If you're feeding your dogs pedigree thats your problem right there. Pedigree puts left over parts into their food.

Feed your chihuahuas a premium small kibble food. No by products (feet, heads, feathers, cancerous meat, etc) and no corn (hard to digest). Make sure the food is all natural - it tastes better to the dog.

Nutro guarantees the dog will love the food or your money back - so its a win win situation.

Now... only feed dry food. Small dogs already have teeth problems due to their size. Canned food get stuck in their teeth and causes rot and decay Dry food helps to clean their teeth.

Now... to lure them to eat put some water on their food and put it in the microwave. It brings out the aroma to make it more alluring. You can also try to put chicken broth or beef broth on their food (it's all natural). You can also put the food w/ broth in the microwave.

....Steer away from the canned, stick w/ the dry and only feed a premium food

--------------------------------------

For a young dog as this HOWEVER - you should be feeding it milk from a bottle till 8 weeks or even up to 12 weeks since its such a small dog. Continue to feed your chihuahua milk then switch onto a premium food and follow the instructions above....

At 5 weeks, they should still be nursing on Mom, but if thats not the case always give puppies Soft food, never hard. The kind in the can is fine. For both of them start with about 4 Large spoonfulls and as they grow increase it.

Yes, there is a canned puppy food by pedigree. The label will tell you how much to feed your puppy. They go by size & weight. I have a Shih-Tzu , Eskimo Spitz, and a mixed chow.
I feed them Natural Balance dry and grate some natural balance round [which can be mixed with dry, or use as a food or treat] and my dogs loves it. Also there is a canned food that is made by natural balance, and it is more like cooked meals. --------You feed your dog what you want , not what other people say. If you wnt your puppy to have pedigree canned food , then feed it to him if he will eat it. My dogs got where thet wouldn't eat it anymore.

I breed chihuahuas and give them puppy pedigree in the can
At about 7 weeks add puppy pedigree dry to the can food and some warm water about 10 mins. before so that it is a little soft for them slowwly decrees the mins you wait so that it is more dry and they will be fine
