we're thinking of getting a dog and a golden retriever is our first choice because of their great reputation, friendly character and gentle giant appearance.
if anyone else has one, i would be interested to know if they get along with cats (i have 2), dont have a problem with being alone during the working day and their required amount of exercise.

also, should i get a puppy or an older dog (retired service dog for example)

I have a german shepherd white puppy, she is 6 and a half months old, she has gone off her food, she is very sleepy, very playful still, and both of my male dogs are starting to show interest in her back end, i am a little concerned as the vet has told me that i have to wait to have her neutered, as she is still very young, please i have never had a *****, and i have two males both unneutered, i am not irresponsible i do not want my dogs neutered, but i do intend to have my ***** neutered, so please i dont need advice on that, i just want to know how to tell the signs of her first season,

Although plaqued by arthritus, he is a very happy dog and like most Labs a bit of a glutton. He has been on PLTs for several years now and I am wondering whether this is part of the problem. I have tried him with Metacam and Rymadll, but neither seemed to ease is joint pain like PLTs. In passing the vet did mention Cushings some while ago. Could it be that? The swelling is right down to the top of his paw, but not on the actual paw. Other than the swelling, he is his normal self.

She's a German Shepherd puppy - a little girl, and is very chunky and giddy. All answers will be considered.

Thanks

I have a 11-month old Golden Retriever (named: Rico).
In general, he doesn't like dry food.. but he has to eat it!
He eats twice a day (10:00AM, 7:00PM) .. bowls stays there for only 20mins! .. of course he wont eat unless someone tells him to eat or pets him to do it. But recently, he's not eating anything!

Today morning he didn't eat anything! He keeps on biting the grass or anything around..

We use Eukanuba Puppy-Large breed (because he hasn't turned 1 year)

So.. What can I do to make him LOVE food time?

Recently when we went to Crufts we fell in love with the Havanese but we are not sure what their temperament/personality is like. Also does anyone know a Havanese breeder around Birmingham UK?

I know that Siberian Huskies are quite individual characters, and I've been told that you shouldn't keep two dominant males together, so if I was to get a puppy Siberian with another breed e.g. a newfoundland (so they can keep each other company) how do you think the dogs would get along with eachother?
Would it be better to get a male husky and a female newfoundland? or both males? or both females?

any advice would be great. thanks.

i have a 'dominant' german shepherd.. and ive fallen in love with a teacup chiwawa cross. im thinking of going down to the shop tomorow and buying the teacup. both dogs are female, the teacup is a puppy and my german shepherd is 6 years old.

any ideas of how i can introduce them to eachother, without my german shepherd getting the urge to eat the chiwawa for breakfast.

all ideas GREATLY appreciated!!

So I've read around previous answers regarding Science Diet and Royal Canin and I just can't make up my mind which food I should use for my Shih Tzu. My shih tzu is on Science Diet and Science Diet seems like a pretty good brand. But then again Royal Canin seems especially interesting because it caters specifically to Shih Tzus. What should I do?

My 7 month-old puppy was spayed today. We came home with an e-collar and I'm not sure if I should leave it off before I go to bed.

She's been sleeping all day. She hasn't been licking or poking around at the stitches and I hear that she wasn't at the clinic either, but I'm still unsure of what to do for the night.

Basically, is it okay to leave her unattended when I go to bed or should I put the e-collar on?

I have a Boxer, he's just under 5 months old. Recently he has been exposing his penis a little more than what i would consider normal. At first i thought it was just him being an adolescent and "figuring things out," but the past couple days it seems like more than that. It's most of the time when he is walking around or playing its hanging out, when he lays down it seems to go back in. I've had a male dog before and don't recall this happening. Is this something i should worry about, or is it truly just him learning what he has in there?

i do plan on getting him nuetered, he's scheduled for the 2nd week of April.

The owner had to go to the vetrans hospital over her father that had a heart attack and flat linned. So how could she take a dog with her that size? Plus the dog is very attached to the one that had the heart attack.

It's 2 a.m. and my neighbor's dog--a lab/chow mix that's one of the homeliest animals I've ever seen--is barking his head off at who-knows-what. Of course, he barks around the clock (I'm a very sound sleeper, though) and it got me to wondering if dogs always bark at the same volume. I'm differentiating between growls and barks.

My mom just called and informed me of the tainted dog food. She reminded me of the tainted peanut butter incident recently. Can anyone speculate, has this only been prominent here in the states? It leaves the mind to wander.
