My 7 month-old puppy was spayed today. We came home with an e-collar and I'm not sure if I should leave it off before I go to bed.

She's been sleeping all day. She hasn't been licking or poking around at the stitches and I hear that she wasn't at the clinic either, but I'm still unsure of what to do for the night.

Basically, is it okay to leave her unattended when I go to bed or should I put the e-collar on?

put the ecollar on, its kinda like insurance, its better to have it and not need it, than to not have it and make a trip back to the vet to have the stitches redone

Hi

Leave the collar on. I work at a vet and they usually put the collars on, so that the pets don't pick on their stitches. Even though she has been sleeping and not doing anything. It is best to leave the collar on. If her stitches come undone, you will need to take her immediately to the vet.

When you go to bed to night, make her comfortable. Let her lie on a blanket or towel. The operation she has had is similar to when woman have a hysterectomy. So she will be groggy a few days.

I hope she feels better quick!

leave it on..if your vet didn't think she needed it she would not have left it on..the puppy can and usually will wake up and start to lick and chew the area as it is just instinct b/c it is an injury, at least to the dog, and it will itch...it is after all going to be healing..I would leave it on over the weekend and call my vet clinic and ask for their thoughts on it on Monday...you do love your puppy and you want to be safer rather than sorry..think of it this way..what is worse.going to the vet with a torn open incision in need of more services and a longer recovery period OR letting the puppy "suffer" through the e-collar for a few nights? the stitches will come out in 10 days..so it is not for long..Hope this Helps!!

put the collar on her for the night. she's still groggy from the anesthetic and when fully alert may chew her stitches.

I would just leave it on, until the vet says, you can take it off. Better safe than sorry.
