I know that Siberian Huskies are quite individual characters, and I've been told that you shouldn't keep two dominant males together, so if I was to get a puppy Siberian with another breed e.g. a newfoundland (so they can keep each other company) how do you think the dogs would get along with eachother?
Would it be better to get a male husky and a female newfoundland? or both males? or both females?

any advice would be great. thanks.

Male and female mix is the best, next best two males. 2 females is a no no because they will fight when they reach maturity.

However it isn't a good idea to get two pups together. They will bond as a pack and you will play second fiddle to the pack.

Also you may not realise that if you get two pups together you cannot take them out together or train them together whilst they are young. They need to experience all the socialisation alone otherwise they will come to rely on each other and will be nervous wrecks if you then take one out alone (if the other one is under the weather for example).

You must train pups individually, it is just about impossible to train 2 pups at the same time with any success.

It is also a lot more difficult to house train 2 pups at the same time.

Please reconsider having two pups at the same time whatever the breed. However if you do decide to go ahead you will need to have twice the time so you can train and socialise them seperately otherwise you will soon regret your decision.

If you insist on having two pups I recommend you speak to a reputable breeder and seek their advice on whether to have two Sibes or which other breed they would recommend.

I have two Siberian Huskies that stay with my parents. Glacier a male, and Sasha a Female. I have two Newfoundland Labs Piper a Female and Lander a Male.

Huskies are pack dogs as well as Labs. In the Huskies Pack you have a dominate male and female. So if you have a male husky get a female of the other breed or just the opposite. They will get along just fine.

Siberians are by nature pack dogs, so yes getting another pup at the same time would be great. It doesn't matter what breed, they will love each other just the same. My Sibe gets along great with all breeds of dog including my mother-inlaw's tiny chihuahua and the dingo cross that lives down the road. Getting 2 pups at the same time could be a bit of a handful, but you will get all the training done and out of the way at the same time, and will allow the pups to grow up to be well socialized. I have heard that some dogs do tend to get same sex dominant, however I do not see a problem if they are raised together from a pup. I also have a older Staffordshire terrier female, and there were no dominance problems when I brought home my female Sibe. Have you done all your research on Siberians? They are such a joy to own, but they are NOT for the inexperienced dog owner. Remember that they are a dog that will require huge amounts of exercise (not just running around the backyard), very stubbourn, extremely independent and strong willed, and shed massive amounts of hair when they blow their coat. They can NEVER be trusted off leash, they are obsessed with running and if an opportunity arises they will run and run and run, and do not have good road sense. They will force their way into every activity wether you like it or not! They are not for everyone, but if you love to get outside and get moving they are so much fun. Good luck!

Never buy 2 puppies together! Especially if one of them is a breed not known for obedience like a Husky. Far better to get one puppy & wait at least a year, preferably 18 months so that you have time to train the puppy. It is almost impossible to train 2 puppies together - they are far more interested in playing with each other than taking any notice of you. Both breeds you mention are pretty sociable - Huskies have to live together when they are working, after all, so 2 males would probably get along, but if you bought one of each sex (and get at least one of them neutered) you should have no problems.
The main problem with keeping these 2 breeds together would be that the Husky would need far more exercise than the Newfie.

I have 2 pitbulls 1 male and 1 female and 1 Akita male. The male Pit and Akita were raised together and they get along fine. But nothing else stands a chance around them when they are together,

It will be fine to have 2 pups together.. A bit more work training 2 but as long as your committed they will do great and I am sure enjoy having a playmate.

Sometimes you can even get them from the same litter.. But if you want 2 different breeds it still wont be a problem.

The sex of the 2 dogs means nothing.. However you should spay or neuter.

Generally speaking, I've heard that it's better to keep a male with a female (provided you neuter/spay), but I think if you raise them together from puppyhood, you should be fine with whatever you choose. You just have to make sure you spend a LOT of time with them, socializing them and teaching them the rules.

In any given situation, focus on what you do want your dog to do instead of on whatever he’s doing wrong. Learn how to train your dog https://tr.im/am6Cw

For example, suppose that on many evenings, your young dog gets busy looking for trouble just as you’re digesting your dinner. He grabs a boot from the mat by the front door and gallops through the house with it. You yell at him and take it away. He grabs its mate. You yell and take it away. He heads for the kitchen and starts checking out the counters in case something tasty’s been left behind. You chase him away. And on and on, until you’ve lost your temper and torn out clumps of hair you can ill afford to lose.

It wont make much difference keeping 2 males together until they mature. Then they will fight each other to prove who is who in the pecking order.
