My mom just called and informed me of the tainted dog food. She reminded me of the tainted peanut butter incident recently. Can anyone speculate, has this only been prominent here in the states? It leaves the mind to wander.

The big ppl think they can do anything they want. They don't care as long as they don't get caught. And when they do they all go Oh my we have to do a recall and and everything will be ok then the ppl will forget in time. This is how they think because they continue to do what they should not do. Don't forget the spinich. after that it was Lettuce. The only thing is the pet food was manufactured in Canada.

I don’t know why people think this is a phenomenon that has started happening only recently. There is a huge pet food recall at least every 1-2 years (in fact, I ran into news stories about major recalls from 05 and 06 while trying to find out more about this recent one), and all sorts of human food and non-food items are recalled *extremely* often as well. Mistakes happen, simple as that. That doesn’t justify it, but nothing in the world is immune to mishaps, and this includes the processes used to make the things we eat and use on a daily basis.

It is not just in the US it happens all over the world, it had to do with humidity and moisture in grain crops and well as some nuts that causes a fungus/mold to grow on them.

there is no way to totally avoid having some fungus on the grains, but at the time crops are taken in the level of fungus is checked, and different levels are sorted, the lowest levels are used for humans foods, slightly high level may be deemed fit for pet consumption higher level maybe okay for certain livestock and higher yet maybe okay for another segment of livestock. In livestock feed the grains are mixed with a type of edible clay which helps to bind the funguses it passes thru the animal as waste rather than being absorbed their body and destroying thier organs, so the clay actually make the grains with high levels safe for them to eat

This is the chart for the allowable amounts by the FDA
http://www.scamperschoicehorsefeed.com/molds.html

The problem occurs when the wrong batch is taken for example grains that were suppose to be used for steers ends up getting to a pet food manufacturer, the levels of fungus are too high for pets to safely consume, most petfood manufacturers test random shipments, but if they do not test every single shipment there is a risk of a wrong shipment getting used, or if not stored properly example humidity can cause the mold to grow

One Pet food company has added the clay to their foods, so depending on the amount used , they may never run the risk of a a recall as a result

a bit about the clay

_____
FIELD OF THE INVENTION

The present invention is directed to a method of retarding or ameliorating the absorption of a broad spectrum of mycotoxins in animals, to improve the metabolic capacity of the animal to deal with mycotoxins, by feeding the animals an acid-activated montmorillonite (smectite) clay, particularly an acid-activated calcium bentonite clay, simultaneously with mycotoxin-contaminated nutrients, such that the acid-activated montmorillonite clay and the nutrients are digested together. The acid-activated montmorillonite clay digested with the mycotoxin-contaminated animal feed, such as corn or peanuts, retards the absorption of mycotoxin-contaminants in the food and permits the mycotoxin to be eliminated in the animal's stool together with the montmorillonite clay.

During the Diamond food recall some vets were using the clay to help heal some animals that were effected, which is where I first learned of it

The dietary clay also has other health benefits and is loaded with minerals and can be used be people and animals

~ No, Linda... I don't think it's prominent here in the states.

~ Think of the kazillion products we sell... consume...

~ What percentage of is is sold to us bad? We hear so little about the bad stuff, that when we do, the media POUNCES ON IT like stink on poop... then they BLOW IT OUT OF PROPORTION... just like the news they report most of the time... so who you gonna' believe?

~ My suggestion... keep your eyes focused on the Lord Jesus Christ... aske Him to bless the food you eat... and enjoy you food (within moderation, of course).
