Surgery is a form of feeding tube, it is not something you want to do if you can avoid, I believe risk of infection was very high, this website they use a special feeding chair to help food go past the esophagus, plans to build one is available on video on this site for $6 just to cover the cost of making the video and shipping, on the picture page is greyhound named Soda who did have the surgery as a temporary measure but later they found out about the bailey chair and he that became his new feeding method last I heard he was doing really well and regained all the weight he lost, he was in hospital for quite a long time and also was fed intravenously just to keep him alive , his story on a greyhound forum was how I learned about
