He's our second rescue dog from a shelter. They both came (6 months apart) with lots of problems but are slowly getting 're-house-oriented.' But this chewing on anything plastic is getting me down and got even worse while our 3 year old granddaughter was here for 3 days. He chewed up all her 'princess' tiny little pieces, (the ones my eyes could find that she dropped). But it goes beyond her toys. Plastic anything he can reach, find, climb up and get. Yes, he climbs up cupboard doors to counters (also trees, fences and bushes--lots of redoing things around here since we got him 6 months ago.)
He also will spray his bed but I think that's from being caged in w/50 other beagles at the original home--a horder. I think they peed on him as part of their pecking order? so he thinks a bed should smell? They have learned basic training well!
pls

I have a small dog (he's a mix between a pekines and a cocker spaniel), he's 10 years old and he's suffering from constipation.

We've taken him to the vet several times, he usually uses his finger to relief my dog from his feces (he suffers a lot when he does this and it's expensive) and he told us to use a laxative but I think it's not working anymore 'cause we give him that every day and he's constipated again.

We feed our dog with dog food. (purina something..).. Please someone tell me what to do, what kind of diet he should have or anything to avoid taking him to the vet every month.. thanks!!!

My dog is fed salmon daily for other skin smells. This plus having the vet FIANLLY realize it was anal glands that needed emptying!!!have elminated the feces smell!!!thank GOD! now she has on her top back-matted like hair, what seems like dandruff under it(skin looks clear and white-no bumps spotted) and the hair or skin or both smell. She doesnt seem to be itching there. Its just smelly and matted looking. Does anyone have an idea what it is and how to treat it? thanks

Ok my dog used to be totally friendly and would never growl, only like 2 years ago she started to get kind of mean. She is totally happy during the day, but at night, if you approach her she will growl and snap if you try to touch her. Why is she doing this? Is she scared of us? Because after she is finished growling she comes up to me with her tail wagging fine and happy. Sometimes i think she's schitzophrenic lol. Any advice?

We have two, beagles, 6 yrs and one who's almost 2. The latter one is a huge pain with huge problems but hugely cte and fun. The older one is the 'designer' beagle bred to look cute, the younger was discovered locked up with 50 other beagles at a beagle 'horder's' farm, he's a real outdoor hunting beagle. You can imagine his issues, poor baby--we only have a fenced in yard although he can climb fences, trees and bushes, etc. Hopefully we've done him some good in the last 6 months and can continue to socialize him. So don't overlook those dogs that are over 2 years old, they could be just as good as our 6 yr old rescued dog.
pls

My dog is a 10 mounth old Queenslin Border (sp?) and when she was younger she used to bite and do little attacks for attention. She doesn't do this now after being trained not to, although she sometimes gently bites our hands if she wants to lead us somewhere.

Anyways, after our ten minute walk today, which was peaceful and she enjoyed it alot, we get closer to the driveway and she instantly jumps and grabs hold of my arm and growls. Shes biting harder and jumping closer to my face until we finally get in the house!

About an hour after that, i take her on a second walk and she does the same thing when we get near our sidewalk.

She also does this when i try to bring her back inside from "going potty" in the backyard. We have to put her on a leash since she just had surgery on her shoulder and we have to keep an eye on her at all times so she doesnt lick herself.

Anybody know why she is suddenly starting this??

I am going to put in an application, but I want to know what it will be like. Here is the link to the shelter and I am really thinking about the kennel assistant or canine specialist.

hi y'all...
i was wondering two things. first my dog is in her second heat now after a littler of 10, i was wondering how long she will bleed for? It is day three and we were wondering how long the period is for mating because we have introduced her to a male dog to mate them today and although they sniffed each other like crazy and hung around there was no action taking place. we have the male dog coming over again tomorrow to hang out again how do i get them to lock or is it something that they have to do narurally(is there anything that i can do to start the process?). i know she knows what to do but i am not so sure about him cuz he seemed skittish. He is 5 years old. thanks for helping....

I have a 5 month old mini pinscher. We got her rabies tags today (her first rabies shot) so she has that tag. Does we need a dog license as well??? What other tags do we need? Does she need to carry all her tags on her collar/harness??

also:

I researched about vaccinations & all that, & i know that even with the new vaccination protocol, some vets still insist on yearly vaccs even though this has proven to be harmful to animals. I gathered a lot of info about vaccs & came up with this:
a dog should get its combo series 3 times in its puppy years..
then again when its 1 years old
then every 3 years from then.

a dog should get its rabies 4-6 months 1 time
then again 1 year later
& then every 3 years later from then.

& a dog should get its bordatella in a series as a puppy
then every year.

is this all correct? id love to hear all your opinions & how you vaccinate your dogs. thanks so much.

What should this mother's punishment be? Here's the todays news about it>>>>>>>>.

"Mother of boy chewed by pit bull is indicted"

The mother of a disabled boy who is believed to have had his foot chewed off by a pit bull puppy was indicted yesterday by a Lucas County grand jury.

Martina Jennings, 23, of 1209 St. John St. was indicted on one count of child endangering, a third-degree felony. She will be arraigned in Common Pleas Court. A hearing has not been scheduled.

Ms. Jennings took her son, Jameille Walker, 4, to Toledo Hospital on Feb. 2 for injuries she claimed were caused by the family’s dog.

Jameille has spina bifida and cannot feel pain in his lower extremities.

Ms. Jennings, who was arrested Feb. 5 and is free on a $10,000 bond, is accused of failing to secure the dog, which chewed off her son’s foot up to the ankle, court records state.

The 4-month-old puppy was euthanized. http://toledoblade.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070224/NEWS02/70223023/-1/NEWS

Every time I see a pit bull its running loose or with a homeless looking street type person. Why? Why dont these owners ever get them fixed and why do they let them run loose terrorising the neighborhood and breeding freely which has resulted in a population explosion of them and in the shelters.
