Could it be that they were bred as killing machines and are owned mainly by very irresponsible ghetto and trailer trash?

Because Pit bulls were bred to be fighting dogs.. (Like the chicken fights) thats even where the PIT part comes from.. they used to throw em in a pit and let em fight to the death and place bets...

They were born and bred to be aggressive killers.. and it suprises anyone that they still are? It suprises me that there arent MORE attacks in fact...

first: the pit bull is the most miss identified breed in the world, if it is large and mean its a pit bull.
CAN YOU FIND THE PIT. BE HONEST. DO THE TEST. If you believe in what you are saying then why not go and try
http://www.pitbullsontheweb.com/petbull/findpit.html
This is a test that was given to Animal Control Officers in over 50 cities, most could not find the pit in three turns.
Before you say it there is only two related breeds in this test. The English bull terrier and the Am. bulldog.
second; The media *** been caught in lies about pit bull attacks. Did you know that the attack that caused the banning of pit bulls in Ontario was not a pit bull but a Cane Corso. The news reporter lied. The mother of the dead girl felt as though she had to speak out and ask that the ban not to go on.

Small breed dogs are actually more likely to attack then the pitbull. Most pitbulls who attack have went through some type of abuse, wheter it be phisical abuse or neglect and this would cause any breed of dog to become aggressive. Yes, pitbulls were originally bred for fighting but that opens up the debate of nature vs. nuture and I personally believe that the pitbull does not inherit the trait of being aggressive but is taught to be that way. A pitbull that is raised properly will turn out to be a kind, loyal and affectionate dog and any person who has ever owned a pitbull will agree. The reason the pitbull has such a bad reputation is because of the media and please note that in some cases the dog is not even a pitbull, but a large breed dog that looks similar to one.
To find out the truth about pitbulls you might consider visiting www.pitbulllovers.com that has alot of very useful information on the breed including the debate of nature vs. nurture, their history and even experiments that have been conducted with pitbulls that proves they are no more aggressive than any other breed of dog and in many cases are less aggressive.

If you'd take time to actually LOOK AT ALL THE DAM FACTS. You'd find there really aren't that many. They are just the ones that publicity, and for weeks on end on one thing.

We never hear about the other breeds that bite people each year in the news. That's why there is so much "fear" of pits, its all media fueled and nothing more.

The simple fact is any dog can bite, any dog can kill a person. So quit your dam pitbull bashing and LEARN THE FACTS YOU IGNORANT ***.

My god, people really need to research these dogs more. Pit bulls were once beloved family pets, not the monsters the media makes them out to be. They were bred to fight bulls, and be affecionate towards people. There are many pit bulls that served as military dogs, and they were greatly rewarded for it. Petey the beloved dog from sitcome The Little Rascals, was A PIT BULL.

We seem to have forgotten this breeds beautiful history with people over a few hyped up media stories.

There are NO BAD BREEDS, NO BAD DOGS, ONLY BAD OWNERS, AND IGNORANT PEOPLE WHO FEUL THE FIRE. The news only gives the partial story, they are a pretty sucky resource, especially for something like this.

All dogs can be viscous, leave the poor pits alone. Rather than punish the dogs, punish the people responsible for not socializing and training their dog, OF ANY BREED. Its not the dogs fault it is the way it is, ITS PEOPLE, and of course the animal suffers the consequences of the idiots as always. Its not fair.

Trailer Trash owner here. Most of the people I know personally who have pitbulls are college educated professionals, including myself. One is a sheriff.

There are "trailer trash" breeders out there breeding because they can make a buck. This is wrong for all breeds, but especially for Pitbulls. This is a breed that should be carefully and thoughtfully bred, if at all. The main concern should be temperament and health. Proper socialization before the puppy leaves the breeder is a necessity.

Gross Generalization alert: The people who own pitbulls involved in attacks are idiots. That is who is responsible for pitbull attacks. Idiots. Outlaw idiots and pitbull attacks would stop.

Though Pits were bred to fight against bulls in the pits, they were also created out of a variety of different lock jaws who later became fighters. People who fight dogs will always breed their best fighters together. Puppies get lost or saved but the gene remains of a fighter. Though pits are loving and VERY gentle with children, some still carry that bit of aggression and it comes to the surface when uncaring owners abuse or simply keep ylecturing in the wrong way. As Dobermans, Pits suffer from a special chemical within their brains and when it reacts, the most unsuspecting thing can happen. People forget that dogs, cats, and other animals are like us (Or rather, we are like them) We and they can only take so much before snapping. I have a pit bull who had been bred for fighting. Her jaw, hips, and legs were broken before she was rescued. You can still see the scars but she is a very gentle and devoted animal, however, I don't doubt that if she is reminded from where she came from, she'd snap..Just like a person. And listen to the other people. Publicity will always chase after the lock jaws (Not just pits) because they have such a bad history. I've seen more reports of small dogs biting then pits...

If you look at where the attacks take place its always in the ghetto. The reason is because they use Pitts as fighting dogs, which is very sad. Ive grown up with the "aggresive" breeds and they are the sweetest things in the world as long as you train them and treat them good. Its just stupid people getting a hold of the dogs. I know they are banning Pitts in alot of cities, but I personaly think that if you want a Pitt a background check should be done, and so should a follow up.

The primary reason is because their owners are irresponsible and stupid and should not be allowed to own dogs. No one should allow their dogs to roam loose and that is what these dogs are often allowed to do by their owners. It goes without saying that they should not be teaching them to be even more aggressive but if they would just keep their dogs confined at least they would protect the public and the only people in danger would be the owners and their family.

like always it goes back to bad owners........have a pit but to be honest get fed up of peoples reaction to her, yet she is the one sitting down whilst their dog goes nuts running in nipping etc and barking.................

Also do NOT allow my dog to be teased by any kids which has played a factor in a few local attacks of late...after all why should the dog be put down after the dog is the one that's been poked with a stick....

I also think that the media plays a HUGE part in the bad rep of this breed, the only bite I have every had was from a toy poodle, but that did not make good press does it?

cp is right. If every dog attack were reported...you would find pit bulls quite far down on the ladder of frequent biters....poodles and chihuahuas would lead the pack on that little dogs are more nervous and tend to bit alot quicker then bigger dogs but its never reported because they are small and do little damage. when a pit bites....he bites
