If you want a good family pet with loads of personality then YES you want a Yorkie. As for the age, do not get the pup any younger than 8 weeks. All puppies need time to bind and socialize with their siblings. 8 weeks is usually the norm. Be prepared, however, that Yorkies tend to have joint problems and also intestinal problems if not fed properly. I have a Miniature Yorkie which i received when he was 4 yrs old. He has become just about the best dog I have ever owned. What a little guy he is! So playful and sweet.

Yorkies are great pets. But they have to meet your daily scheduals. They need a lot of attention and care. If you are an unexperienced own then I suggest you get an older male at around 10-1yr so they are house-broken and easy to care for. But if you are experienced then you can get any age you want! But to get a Yorkie, no one can tell you yes or no because we do not know how you live everyday. Things like Are You Home Enough? Do You Have Small Children? are questions we don't know and need to know(but we don't expect you to tell us) just to give a straight out answer. What you should do is discuss this with the people you live with, how is effects your life and how it effects theirs. I hope this helped! :]

You should examine your personal situation before you get any breed of dog. Are you able to commit to caring for the dog for many years? Do you have your own home or rent somewhere pet friendly? Is your landlord ok with you having dogs? One place that could help acquaint you with the breed and its temperament would be to visit the website for the national breed club. Depending on your home situation and whether you have children in the home or other dogs or how much grooming you have time for, these things will all impact on your choice of whether to get a dog or not of any breed.

Yes, of course, but hope you are home almost all the time and want a "baby" to take care of. This is not a dog you leave home alone or leave in the backyard. Great little pet, if you are able to give it the care it needs. I have a girl and a boy dog (neutered at 5 months) and I love them equally, they both have their own funny traits.

You can get a Yorkie
They are very small
If you want a bigger dog (8 to 12 pounds) you can look at Silky Terriers. They look a lot like Yorkie, buy their coats are silky.
Good luck

if you are looking at getting a yorkie pup, get a male, small dogs attach themselves to the opposite gender, and get them as a puppy like any where from 8wks-6mths, any sooner and they shouldn't be away from their mother and any later they will be hard to train, and make sure you get them from an established breeder.

go to akc.org and read up on the breed....... then find a reputable breeder,,,, meet them and they will decide which pup is best for you...... they will match your personality with the temperament of a pup that is best suited to you
