What should this mother's punishment be? Here's the todays news about it>>>>>>>>.

"Mother of boy chewed by pit bull is indicted"

The mother of a disabled boy who is believed to have had his foot chewed off by a pit bull puppy was indicted yesterday by a Lucas County grand jury.

Martina Jennings, 23, of 1209 St. John St. was indicted on one count of child endangering, a third-degree felony. She will be arraigned in Common Pleas Court. A hearing has not been scheduled.

Ms. Jennings took her son, Jameille Walker, 4, to Toledo Hospital on Feb. 2 for injuries she claimed were caused by the family’s dog.

Jameille has spina bifida and cannot feel pain in his lower extremities.

Ms. Jennings, who was arrested Feb. 5 and is free on a $10,000 bond, is accused of failing to secure the dog, which chewed off her son’s foot up to the ankle, court records state.

The 4-month-old puppy was euthanized. http://toledoblade.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070224/NEWS02/70223023/-1/NEWS

This is proof that Pits are instinctively inherently bad dogs. Pups of 4 months have not had enough time to become trained badly!.

Totally agree with you and that's why they're now illegal to own in Ontario Canada.
Besides they're so ugly.

The mother needs to be charged to the fullest extent of the law because she is directly to blame for what has happened here.

According to court records, the dog chewed the child's foot up to the ankle - this is something that would've taken some time, even for a grown dog, let alone a four months old puppy that still has its baby teeth. During the entire time this was happening, the child and dog were without supervision. Where was the mother?

As both the child's mother and the dog's owner she has failed miserably. Parents need to make sure their children are supervised or in a safe environment, and pet owners need to make sure their pets are supervised or if they cannot be supervised, they must be safely confined. In this case, placing the puppy in a crate or another room would've been the right thing to do.

You never ever ever ever leave any dog, even if it's the friendliest of family dogs - with young children unsupervised. There's just too much that can happen.

And no, this does not show that Pit Bulls are inherently evil. That's just stupid and shows you know nothing about any dogs. All four months old puppies chew - they will chew on anything and everything, especially when they are unsupervised. Any other unsupervised young puppy could have done the same.

If anything, this shows that a lot of people who OWN Pit Bulls are inherently clueless about dogs and really shouldn't own any kind of dog.

Any 4 month old puppy could have done this. And the only reason this made headlines was because it WAS a pitbull. I bet you that if it were a Lab, Chihuahua, or any other breed, it would not have gotten all the media attention that the story has gotten thus far.
Puppies chew things. I don't think it was fair for the pup to be put down..it was only 4 months old, doing what all puppies do. As usual...it's not the dogs fault, it's the owners fault.

I feel bad for the little boy, but the parents are the ones to blame. They should not have allowed the baby to sleep where it was in reach of the puppy, while they also slept. You NEVER leave any kind of dog and a child unsupervised.

As the mother of a 6yr old spina bifida child I feel kinda sorry for the mother. Yes First of all she shouldn't have had a pit bull dog as the family dog knowing that her child has spina bifida. She should have watched her son more. But when my daughter was 11 months old We were driving home and she was in her backwards car seat. She had her socks and shoes on and she took them off and started chewing on her feet. When we got home she had blood dripping from her mouth and we rushed to her to the ER. Kids with spina bifida who cannot feel there feet will not cry when hurt in that area. My daughter stepped on a christmas ornament and cut her foot open trying to get some water in the middle of the night. And i have no clue I was sleeping until she crept into our bed and i saw the blood. I agree the mother has partial fault but it's tough when your son or daughter has no feeling in there feet. If you had a child with spina bifida you would understand more.

What a shame.
And the blame should not be place upon the dog. It's not like the pitbull was years old and knew what ALL humans looked like. He was just a pup and probably couldn't tell the difference b/w a child or a chew doll.
The Mother is all at fault and should do some time, she not only destroyed her sons body but she also had a beautiful puppy killed to boot.

She should be euthanized.

So many dumb people owning pets and making babies.

Ok....if it was a lab or golden retriever would it have made the news? Probably not. As the owner of 2 pitbulls in a multi pet household and also having 2 children I have never had a problem such as that. Isnt it a known fact that puppies will chew on everything in site? And where was the mother? Maybe she should have been euthanized.....

The woman should not have had a baby or a dog. She was negleting her son, she was probly doing the same to the dog. I bet the puppy was not fed or taken care of and how could it chew off the foot without her knowing. It would have taken hours for the puppy to do it. $ month olds only have milk teeth and yes they are sharpe but not large or strong. When my pit was 4 months old he had troble with milk bones.

The mother should get in a lot of trouble regardless of the breed that chewed the boy's foot. A good parent doesn't leave a baby or child unattended with an animal. A good parent doesn't leave a child unattended long enough for an extremety to be chewed off.

That is just a horrible situation all around. Definately not good for the pit bull breed as well. Definately neglect on the mother's part, probably both human and dog. The dog probably wouldn't have eaten the boys leg if it was fed enough or disciplined correctly. And if you have a child with special needs, you need to watch them carefully.

Pitts are not bad dogs, its bad people that make them bad. Crack wh*ors and drug dealers make the dogs bad. They are good dogs. You hear about the handful of bad ones but what about the millions of good ones?? Whats next are you going to try and say that Rotts are bad dogs, or Dobermens or German Shepards??? It all depends on how you raise the dog just like a child, if you abuse the child the child is going to most likely abuse their children. Animals need to be treated with respect. And its sad that the puppy got put to sleep because of the owner. Did you know that the parents were doing drugs? They were to passed out to hear their own child crying. Its sad what happend to the child, but its even more sad when you have people like you saying that these types of dogs are harmful.

puppies CHEW..thats what they do....parents who can keep no better eye on their kids or animals then this ought to not have them. When a puppy chews, most people pull away, This little guy couldnt feel it so he didnt know and the puppy thought he was a chew toy.I am sure it wasnt a vicious, and yes i agree with locking the mother up.
