Yes, but it depends on the age of the dog, his health and what the trick is. For example, asking a 10 year old dog to suddenly start jumping through a hoop you have in the air is too much. But teaching something simple, like "paw", is possible.
If, however, you want more basic commands, like "sit", "stay", "down", etc., then this relates to how obedient the dog is. If your dog has viewed himself as the "alpha" dog in the house his entire life, then he's not going to listen to you no matter what. Oh, he may do a momentary "sit", but he'll pop right back up because he doesn't consider you the leader. You can still do obedience training on an older dog - but there are limits and it really depends on the dog.

Yes, you CAN teach an old dog new tricks. mY dog is about 14 and I put a bone on his nose and taught him how to stay still without the bone falling!

The oldest dog in my house is 57 and only has 2 legs.I've taught him quite a few new tricks but I've had alot better luck in house breaking the 4 legged dogs here than this one.

If you are speaking of an older canine, with patience you certainly can. Now, if you are referring to an old husband, you're just as well off trying to teach a dead dog new tricks.

Sure you can teach an old dog new tricks if you change what you are doing.

Of course you can! You can teach them anything you want (obviously within reason!) depending on how much time you're willing to spend trying. My 5yo german shepard is still learning stuff, and my 11yo shepard x blue heeler is learning stuff too. It keeps them occupied & happy because they're making you happy. It's definately worth the time & effort.

Ya sure can!
As a matter of fact, after nearly 5 years of marriage, I've finally gotten my husband to take his shirts and socks off without turning them inside-out.
Oh! And he even unloads the dishwasher these days!

Depends on what newspaper you use. I favor the Los Angeles Times Sunday Edition.

get it to trust you if you are new to it. Don't expect big time things. It will set and maybe want to get on your lap. Try taking it for a walk and get some exercise. You'd be surprised how young they act
