We feed our dogs twice a day and they know when it's time to eat. Is there anyway to break this habit? Is it even advisable to make them eat once a day?

sorry for what will probably be a long question, but i have just adopted an 8 week old pup from a shelter (poor thing was abused from the time he was 3 weeks old, then rescued by the shelter at 5 weeks old, along with his mum and siblings)

i am new 2 owning a puppy, as i have always adopted grown dogs from shelters. i also have a poodle mix who is 1 yr old from another shelter

i just want some general advice about puppies? how to check that they r ok all the time? dispite all he has been through his health is great! i hav taken him 2 the vet (even after he was vet checked at the shelter, just to be sure!)

i just wanted to know anything that i should be watching out for health-wise which pups suffer from? he is up to date on vaccinations, worming, flee treatments etc, and is booked in to get his 2nd set if vaccines on the 22nd of this month. he is also microchipped.

can anyone help me out with any pup info which they think is good? and that u think i eed to know?

thanks!

She had a false pregnancy (milk and all), we had her spayed during that, and now she keeps crying, carrying one of her "puppies" (stuffed animals) around - whining, howling, crying. Not her normal happy, silly self!

i just got a male puppy (8 weeks old) from a shelter. i know that they are wormed etc at the shelter so i'm sure he doesnt have any, but for future referance, how would i be able to tell if he has worms?

i dont mean to get answers like "worm him regularly" b'cos i know that, and i also know (b'cos i was warned by the ppl at the shelter) that is IS still possible for a dog to contract worms, even with regular worming. especially puppies and especially in the warm weather (cos its the middle of summer here)

i am worming him every 2 weeks until he needs it every month and then every 3 month after 12 months of age, but what r the tell-tale signs of worms??

thanks in advance! =)

Hi,
I own a Yorshire Terrier. He's not even a year old, and he is already 7.5 pounds. A fully-aged yorkie should only be 7 pounds, yet he has already surpassed this weight in less than a year. I try to feed him dog food, but he has become so used to human food it's ridiculous. Everyone in my home gives him treats and scraps. He is extremely picky with his food, and he even has a stash somewhere in the house if I refuse to give him human food! I don't know what to do. Does anyone have any stories of their dogs who have gone through the same thing? Is human food enough to cut my dog's life short? I really need some true horror stories to show my family that this is a seroius thing.

My family has a tea cup chihuahua. He is mabey 2.5lbs. Just a little bit ago my dad accidentally stepped on him. He doesnt know where, but he thinks it was one of his back legs. Now our puppy is walking normally, nothing is different, but he is walking with his tail between his legs. When I picked him up and was holding him he was making this kinda faint wimpering sound. Its really quiet, but I can defenitly hear it. I was just wondering if he needs to go to the vet or if he is going to be ok. Or if there is anything I can do for his discomfort. My mom just fed him and he ate fine, but he wasnt like his usually self when she is making the food. Usually he hops around her till she is done. This time he did get up but just stood there watching her then slowly walked to his cage to eat.

My dog was in an accident this summer and i was adviced to have her spayed because having a litter could be dangerous for her. so today i arranged to have her spayed. her pelvic bone was broken in her accident, and the doctor told me that she had to make an extra long cut to do the spaying. now she is bleeding from the incision point, not alot, but the wound is covered and a few drops when she tries to get up and walk.
I've ALREADY called the emergency line for the animal hospital her spaying was done at, and the vet advised me to clean the wound, and keep her laid down for a half hour to see if the bleeding continues. i'm doing that and at the end of half hour call him back.
but i am wondering if there is anything else i can do? she's been through so much already...

My dog is 1 1/2 years old. He's perfectly normal and healthy. Execept, sometimes he starts to sniff things in a very neurotic and almost psychotic way. He goes around the whole apartment sniffing both me and my husband and every piece of furniture, and at the same time stops to bite his tail, not aggresively, but he continues to sniff the apartment with his tail between his legs. I don't seem to find anything that "triggers" this. It's always outta the blue.I'm out of ideas. I really don't mean to be funny but it almost looks like he's on crack. If anyone can point me in the right direction my dog and I would really appreciated.

I have a chihuahua and I don't think it's a dog. I think it's maybe more like a cat.

I have never heard of this before!! I have a male cavalier (soon to be desexed) and I was considering getting a female cavalier also (will also be desexed). Do females get 'periods' when they are desexed, and how much blood when they do they bleed? Thanks!

my yellow lab has a growth on her left side right near her hind leg...

my uncle's mom had a lot of labs throughout the years and said that it could just be a fat deposit and that there was a way to tell the difference between that and a tumor...

my dog was the runt of the litter, and we dont really have enough money to take her to the vet, so if someone could help, that would really be a big help :)

My 3 mo. old puppy broke her elbow & the regular vet clinic could not fix it with a simple splint or cast so I have to go to a specialist, does anyone know how much it runs for something like that? Please help. She will likely need pins or screws to correct it.
