pineapple makes the poop taste bad, so they don't want to eat it , apparently (as if it could get any worse!)
or you can get some powder that makes the poop taste bad. Poor dog will be eating chillis and pineapples for a month! It is awful but many dogs do it, it is natural (ish!) they don't see it as mess, they see it as a free snack!

3 remedies:
Ask your vet or a pet-supply store if the food you are feeding would have the right nutrients for your breed of dog. It is common for a dog to eat poop if it is lacking in some nutrient and it's brain is telling it to eat eat eat.

Have your vet do a blood test for any ailments.

Scoop the poop.

Really, option 3 is obvious, but if he is eating poop and immediately goes for it, he (or she!) is probably malnourished in some way. I am not saying that you are starving your dog in any means!!!
For example! I have a pug who has bladder stones. He is on Science Diet U/D 80% canned 20% kibble.
We have a bullmastiff mix pup who is eating SD Large Breed Puppy and she poops a lot.

Foster (the pug) has taken a liking to her (Regan's) poop.
'Fozzy' is on a restricted diet, so of course the high protein diet poop smells good! (ick!)

There could be lots of reasons why your dog eats poop.

I hope these ideas and experiences help!

The obvious answer would be to pick up the poo before she can eat it, but aversion therapy will help also. Carry a spray bottle of water with you when you take her for a walk, after she's done her poo and makes to eat it, immediately spray the water at her and shout NO. When she backs off praise her for doing as she is told. If you do this every day she will get the message and know that to eat poo is a no no. Then book her into the vet for a check up to make sure she is otherwise well.

train the dog to put in a poop bin/toilet...

BETTER STILL.. train your self obvious you are seeing him eat it but blind to seeing the poop ..scoop it up and dispose of it correctly if you are taking your dog out in public this is what you should be doing..

or is your dog left to exercise in your own yard take him out on a lead to do his business and you will see him going to eat it but you get there 1st with your scoop..

and yes like most say on here is he getting the right nutrition that question needs addressing too.

ask for the vets opinion is my best advice then buy a scoop and clean it up ...

I read in a puppy book pretty recently that if you are having that problem you should bring it to your vets attention immeadiatley and they will give some sort of medication that makes the poop taste bad ( lol ) so the puppy will eventually be conditioned not to eat it anymore.

Hello,
Dogs usually eat their poop because they are lacking something in their nutrition. What kind of food do you feed your pet? You can also buy a pill at a pet store that will stop them from eating their own feces.

Spray the poop with citronella oil. Dogs dislike the smell. If your dog is a quick learner it won't go back for round 2.

I asked this question, and the only way to really prevent it is to try to pick up after him right away before he has the chance.

HI! I SEE EVERYONE HAS GIVEN THE OBVIOUS ANSWER OF CLEAN IT UP AND MALNUTRITION, BUT I MUST ASK IF SHE/HE HAS ACCIDENTS IN THE HOUSE? HOW DID YOU TRAIN YOUR PUPPY? A COMMON, BUT NOT ACCEPTABLE WAY PEOPLE THINK THEY ARE TRAINING THEIR DOGS IS TO RUB THEIR NOSE IN IT. IF THIS HAS OCCURED, BY YOU OR ANYONE ELSE, THIS MAY HAVE TAUGHT YOUR DOG TO EAT IT.
