Was looking for a puppy, contacted a breeder/trainer about my individual situation. I am hung up on getting a large dog, but live in an apartment, though I am active I am not like a jogger or anything but love daily walks and occasional camping trips, she suggested 3 breeds but I don't know much about these individually and akc doesn't tell much other than over all strucuture so some info would be great..

The breeds were a great dane, english mastiff, or the larger schnauzer variety, she also mentioned a bull mastiff, I have to say I dont like heavy shedding so that is a concern but everything else sounded good and I like the looks of all of them, please help with any info you can think of..

we already have one dog...she is six years old and she is free to roam the house when we leave...we don't have a reason to keep her in a crate...but, we're getting a puppy on thursday and we're planning on crate training her for when we go to work and at night because she isn't potty trained and we don't want her chewing on everything...is that okay? i want real answers...not people telling me that i mistreat my animals...i just don't think that it's fair to start keeping one in a crate after all this time when we have no reason to...

The female is already the alpha dog. My male is spoiled because for the longest, he was the only one. They fight constantly for my attention. If I hug one, the other gets ran over. If one gets on the sofa (female) she growls at the male when he comes near the sofa as if she owns it. She even growls at me, if I reach for the male to give him a hug. What do I do to keep them from being jealous?

i have a 10 week old american eskimo that constantly will bite your pant legs or feet when you're walking and it's impossible to play with her because she'll just bite you the whole time. i say "NO" as firmly as i can when she does it, i've held her muzzle and said "NO" and i've held her down and said "NO" but it's not like it even works for 3 seconds, she just runs back and attacks you! i try to avoid her for a little while but the only time she doesn't bite is when she's calmed down. i'm really at a loss of what to do.

My dog named Lizzie goes outside and when she comes back in, her eyes are red and seems like they are popping out of the corners. I think that it could be from the dead fish we have out in our backyard. I don't know. Can someone please help me?

Is there a Human anti inflammatory that is safe to use on dogs?

I have a JRT that was in a road traffic accident last year, he has healed up fine but has started to hold his back leg due to some swelling in his knee. He doesn't seem to be in any major discomfort as he's still running around, eating things he shouldn't and wagging his tail.

I really dont want to take him to the vet as this is a very distressing experience for him (not suprising given the number of operations the poor thing has had) and my vet tends to be a bit injection happy which I really can't afford at the moment.

a freind has suggested childrens anti inflammatorys but I'm not so sure. He is only 12 months old and I'm guessing he weighs between 4-8 KG as he's a JRT.

The two go hand in hand. In the 30's, 40's and 50's pit bulls were the most popular family dog in this country. The goverment used the pit bull as the symbol of courge and national pride in WW1. They were used as nanny dogs to protect the childern of fram families and the first army dog was a pit mix nammed Stubby. He was given severl medals, the rank of SRG. and honored in the white house. Do something about the human element in all of these attacks and they will stop and the pit bull can again be the bright star of the dog world they were at one time.

My husband bought me an ACA registered Pekingese puppy for Valentine's Day, from a local breeder. The puppy is 9 weeks old
has had all it's shots, been wormed, etc. A visit to my vet today revealed the puppy to be in great health. The vet said it's the best
example of breed standard he's ever seen in a Pekingese. The
ACA registered parents of the puppy (which I saw) are both supposed to be champions. We saw the show pics and trophys.
We paid $125 for the puppy becasue the breeder has to relocate
and needed to sell the puppies fast. My neighbor says ACA is bogus and so is the breeder because of selling dog so cheap.
Does anyone know anything about American Canine Association ?
I know a lot about AKC but have never heard of ACA.

She was inside our home and she rolled up into a little ball and started shaking uncontrollably and breathing heavy. I picked her up. She did not have any exterior injuries. She started drooling and refused water. I was able to calm her down, I put her on the floor, she laid in her bed for about a minute, then the shaking started again. She scooted (could not walk) down the hall and under my bed.

My apartment has breed restrictions. This includes pit bull, american bulldogs, german shepherds, chows, akitas, mastiffs, dobermans, rotties, and any other dog that looks like these dogs. The problem is that i've looked at so many dogs, and these happen to be some of my favorite breeds. I've tried to just wait 8 months until my lease is up. But that is just not working for me, as i have been waiting 21 years to get my own dog. My question is.... Does this dog look scary? Would you look at him and think pit bull?? He is half staffordshire bull terrier and half rhodesian ridgeback, or at least that is the shelters best guess. Would you think pit bull if i only mentioned rhodesian ridgeback mix?

I have a 2yr old Aussie that I'm sure would be great at agility and frisbee. We are looking at getting a portion of the yard fenced in as a start. He knows some basic commands like sit, stay, come etc, but is easily distracted by other dogs, people and small animals. Once he gets more exercise, I'm hoping his will listen with more consistency. I don't want to invest alot of money on the equiptment if I don't know how well he will do, or if we may just do it as a casual exercise routine. Thank you!
