Have you checked his do-do for worms? That's a possibility. He also could be missing you when you are gone, so he only eats evenings when you are there. In that case I guess just give him lots of attention when you are home, and when you leave, leave a soft shirt or something you wear, with your scent on it so he can smell you...........something that you have worn...not clean.

It happened to my mother. Your puppy feel lonely and need some attentions during the days. The puppy has feelings like any child has. What my mother did was got her puppy another companion- puppy. It helps a bit to motivate the puppy to eat during the day and happy to have the company while you gone for the day to work. The same puppies , now into older dogs grew old together and still enjoy each other the company! Think about it. If you want to have more information on why your puppy's not eating beyond mine, Try to ask the vet and discuss this issue.

Dogs will not eat when we are away. This is purely a survival instinct on their part. They don't know if and when we will come back in their doggie brains and they won't eat b/c they need to keep food available (just in case) Try waking up an hour early before work and play with your pup for a few minutes, and give him food while standing there with him. entice him with adding a little can food - do the same thing at night when you get home. Start him on a schedule of eating before and after work, but make sure he knows you are there with him. Good luck

Feed him high quality food such as Nutro or Wellness brand. Mix in some plain yogurt or pure pumpkin everyday. It will ease his digestion and make the food more tolerable. Some puppies are susceptable to the stress of being alone and it affects their little tummies. The yogurt or pumpkin will help that. Try some chicken stock as well. It won't help the digestion as much but it will add an appetizing measure.
Good luck with your new puppy. :)

Are you feeding a high quality food such as Neutro or Royal Canin?
If you aren't, then I suggest switching to something with the most nutrients such as those listed above.
If you are feeding him those, then take him to the vet for a check up. He is probably fine, but you need to make sure he doesn't have an obstruction, or intestanal problem.
It may be though, that you said he eats at night, that he is too busy playing. try putting him ina crate or a small room with his food for about 1/2 an hour for quiet time

Well its either he has a worm or he has a fast metabolism. If he has a worm take em to the vet but if he has a fast metabolism then hes OK.My puppy is super skinny and we took her to the vet and the vet said that she just digest faster and is naturally skinny. Also it depends on what breed cause some dogs are skinny and some are fat

first make sure that you are giving your dog a good quality dog food. nothing with red dye's. Second make sure your dog doesn't have worms. That can be a number one cause. kong makes a really great treat ball that you can put dry treats that are healthy inside of it. and keep him busy. Then is there someone who can check on him while you are work, and maybe give a treat. cheap foods will not provide any nutrients basically they go right threw them and they just poop them out. and get nothing from the food.

By leaving food down your creating a fussy dog. Put the food down and then pick it up 15 minutes later and chuck out whatever is left.
Your dog could be bored of its' food as well. I reccomend a diet called BARF - do an internet search on it.

Has he seen a vet to check for worms or other parasites? If not, that's the first thing you need to do. Your vet can give you better ideas on what to do from here anyway and let you know if the dog truly is underweight and by how much.

Has he been wormed ? How old is he and how long have you had him ? If you eat bacon....save the bacon grease and put a teaspoon or two on his food and mix it around. If he hasn't been wormed yet you really need to get it done and if he hasn't had any of his shots....well they need to be done also....he may just be lonely.... I hope this helps....
