Use Epi Otic ear cleaning solution. This is what was used at the vet clinic I previously worked at.

you can buy a special product if you want, but if the dog is healthy and the ears are just dirty, all you really need is a warm wet washcloth, put it over your fingertip and wash the bigger places, then take wet Q-tips for the creases, you can use a little olive oil on the q-tips if you like. Don't go too deep in the ear canal.
If the dog has long ears and there's hair with junk matted on the underside, you can use an old soft toothbrush & warm water to brush the crusties out of the hairy part.

You can use any ear cleaner (I like Epi-Otic) that is marketed for dogs, and just put it in the ear, rub it around, let the dog shake her head, and then wipe it out with a cotton ball. The ear cleaner has drying properties and it will not cause any type of infection or ear problems by filling the ear canal with the cleaner. Do not use a q-tip because they will cause damage to the ear, they should only be used if you have been shown how to use them properly by a veterinarian.

rubbing alcohol works great because it will dry very quickly and not leave moisture in the ear that can cause infection. You can use anything from a cotton ball, q-tip or even a kleenex. Just be sure you aren't pushing wax further into the ear. If there's alot of buildup look into a comercial product you can put into the ears and leave. It will loosen the wax and cause your dog to shake its head loosening and moving the wax out of the ear.

I use a Q tip also, but very carefully. Or just a corner of a wash cloth. Water, hydrogen peroxide, baby oil but put onto the Q tip or wash cloth FIRST. Do not pour anything into the ear. Don't push anything very deep into the ear. If the dog seems to have something in deep, it pays to pay a vet to check it.

I use baby shampoo on my dog's head/outer part of the ears and keep as much water OUT of the ears as possible. Dogs ear canals are shaped in a way that makes them prone to infections.

You can use a warm washcloth or wet Qtip....However, if the dogs' ears are bad and need some more attention than that you may want to look into getting a special ear medicine for your dog. I have a pug with horrible ears, and we got medicine from the vet...still using a warm washcloth or Qtip to clean even with the medicine.

I put ear cleaner on a cotton ball and wipe my dogs ears out with that. You can buy ear cleaner from your vet or any pet store.

Tea tree oil on a q-tip. Not only will it clean them out but it will also kill ear mites.
