My 3 mo. old puppy broke her elbow & the regular vet clinic could not fix it with a simple splint or cast so I have to go to a specialist, does anyone know how much it runs for something like that? Please help. She will likely need pins or screws to correct it.

Depends on where you live. Different states have different costs. I know in VA to fix a freshly broken elbow would cost between $400-$600 with the overnight stay. If it over 24-48 hours old tho, it could cost more, cause it is already healing like it is and the Vet will have to re break the joint to reset it.

It depends on a lot of factors (like where you are located, where the elbow is broken, and how big the puppy is). I would say that it would start at $1000 and go up. I hope that she gets better.

Also, I know that it sounds dramatic, but you may be able to have the puppy's leg amputated for a lot less than the cost of having it fixed. Dogs do fine on 3 legs (especially if it is removed while the dog is still a puppy) and sometimes even with all of the expensive surgeries to repair it the leg is still not right.

It's really hard to tell, but anytime a specialist is needed, I would say $1,000 will just get you started. My only recommendation is to be careful in deciding what's best for your puppy, do your homework, as my experience found that sometime a broken elbow has permanent damage, no matter how much you have to spend, nor how many surgery you'll put your puppy through. Ask for a frank answer at the University, as it may never recover from it, and you may have to consider amputation, in order to assure your puppy a normal, pain free life.

Is there an ASPCA/SPCA hospital in your city? If so they may have less expensive rates. I'm sorry to hear about the puppy's broken elbow. I hope all goes well.

Good luck.

I don't know but can only advise that puppies are like children with constant unexpected expenses. After you get your pup better look into pet insurance, it is offered and does help. Good luck to you and your baby.

Okay. First of all, you need to get it fixed for her....she is probably in incredible pain and if you don't fix it soon it will only lead to more pain in her lifetime. I know it stinks! My cat once fell out of a window and had to have major surgery. I couldn't afford it so I contacted my local Volunteer Services for Animals. They had funds to assits me. Call local vets and ask for any resources for financial support. Please get it fixed for her!

Call and ask different vets one vet might be trying to rip you off but don't jump for the lowest price cause they may do a bad job.
I know its not car insurance but show around, but don't take to long cause the injury could get worse.
