After the very first rabies shot, your dog will need one again in one year. After that, it can be 2-3 yrs depending on your vet and the requirements in your area.

Some states do the rabies shot once a year, while others give them every 3 yr. Check with your vet as to what your state's requirements are. I know our states require that it is done every year.

Typically once a year in most states. Check with your local vet. In some states you have to have them given by a vet, in others you can buy the serum & do it yourself. I suggest every year, because if ever your dog nips or bites someone, and they are up to date on their rabies shot most likely they will only be quarintined for a short while. Worst case scenerio, if proof of shot isn't recent enough for local law enforcement they will have your pet euthanized & the head sent in for testing.

You should have your dog vaccinated every year. Most states REQUIRE this, but some are more lenient. Still, even if it's not required, it's best practice to repeat once a year.. for the sake of your pet and everyone else involved. You wouldn't want your pup killed because of a missed shot if he/she were to bite someone would you? Veterinary offices customarily send out reminders to pet parents reminding them of shots due, provided you take your animals in to be vaccinated. Several people administer the shots themselves, but for the sake of protecting your dog's life in the case of a bite, it's best to have a vet's signature on the shot record. My vet not only gives a collar tag, but a signed dated certificate proving the shot was given and when it "expires."

the only way for you to know for sure in your state is to contact your local county/city health department and ask them the requirements for your state they will let you know how often this is the easiest way to get the right answer every state varies and also some towns in a state will vary depending on frequency or rabies outbreaks better to ask and be safe then sorry............... hope this helps........ oh yeah also i know my state will not take the collar tag as PROOF they ask for the paper signed from the vet...................
