My Rhodesian Ridgeback had these little scabby bumps all along her underside and all over her body right before the holidays in 06'.We took het to our vet and they put her on a couple of meds, gave her a special shampoo& a leave in cond.,and put her on Purina vet diet called HA(HypoAllerginic)they all helped, and after it cleared up,as instructed,I stopped everything. After a few days, the spots on her underside came back. She currently eats\ate NutroLg.Breed which has chicken as the only protein. She was eating Lamb&Rice, but she had developed(what I thought)was the allergy to the Lamb after being on it almost a year.I thought it was a bad bag of food, since I offered it to my other RR puppy as a treat, and then he got the same rash on his back.So I started her back on the leftover meds and they seem to help. She doesn't eat the HA food very good,so I mix them, seeing the Nutro food w\chicken seems to help. The vet said the only way to figure out the allergy is bloowork, which is $$$... Help!

I bought an 8wk old pomeranian yesterday and since she has been home she has been crying when she has her bowl movement. Its not to hard, kind of soft, black coloring with a dark green in it. I don't know if it is the food shes been on or if its because of another problem. She has also been scooting her bottom across the carpet quite frequently. I don't know if she is doing this because it hurts so bad to get it out and it is making her little bottom itch or what. The earliest my vet can see her is Monday evening at 5:30pm. Is there anything I can do for now or should I be concerned about tapeworms, improper food (shes on the Nutro puppy canned dog food and has been since 4wks old), she has been doing this for a while from what her owner says, and she hasn't had her shots nor her baby puppy check up yet...she will this Monday though! Please help me what should I do for the next two days?????

Can someone please tell me about Papillons? How are they towards strangers and other dogs? Does it take a lot to groom them? Do they shed a lot?

I’m looking for some general information about what GPS systems are available – and some specific information about which system would work best for my dog.

I own a Boxer. The dog is living in the country – which means street names and such are not always going to come into play (the dog’s position may be “200 ft into the woods). Also, the dog is indoor/outdoor, so if the system depends on a collar, I’m worried about weather, humidity, moisture and such – how much does this effect the system?

Are there collar systems and chip system? And is there any clear advantage/problems to either?

I found a tick looking bug on my dog the other day. I havent seen any more, i found it in his ear, and there are lots of black dots maybe eggs in his same ear. I picked it off with tweezers and burned it, im wondering what kind of bug it may be, and how do i make sure they are gone for good.

He is 18 months old, and does not have a thick coat. His coat is thinner than a lab's, . He actually has places on his underbelly that are completely bare (it has been this way since he is was a puppy). We got him bathed this past weekend (we bathe him every 4-6 weeks), and since then he has been losing an excessive amount of fur. If I run my hand through his fur, I end up with a FISTFULL of hair. I can see all the roots... it's pretty disturbing. He does have natrually dry skin and hair, and has been on a nutritional supplement since he was a pup to help with that. He eats Science Diet dry and wet food. He is a very well taken care of dog... gets daily walks/runs, goes to the vet regularly. I called the vet and they said I did not HAVE to bring him in unless I started to see bald spots, but I'm thinking about taking him in anyways. Does this sound familiar to anyone? I've never seen a dog shed like this before. Could it be the dryness of my home or may it be serious?

Hi everyone,

I have two 5 month old male (brothers) puppies. I also have a lhasa female dog and a 1 yr. old bullmastiff male dog (still very puppy like). About 6 months ago we lost our Alpha dog to kidney failure. Our lhasa and bullmastiff were not taking it well, nor were we, so we rescued this two 8-week old puppies from the local shelter. The three males get along seemingly equal in dominance. The female lhasa has full control over their behavior towards her.

My question: How do I find out who is dominant of the three males? Since they are all still puppies and neither of the three have ever previously had Alpha roles, when does this role happen..at what age?

My most curious question is: what does it mean that my two 5 month old puppies always greet the bullmastiff male by licking and nipping at his ears, his mouth and yes..his privates (his anus and his penis). Who's dominating who there?

Any thoughts would be appreciated! Thanks and have a great day!

I have three dogs, A female german shepard (doja) , who is in heat. A mastiff and boxer mix who is a male (rocco). and a Pug ( mercury)who is also a male. they all usually get along good until lastnight, The boxer mix is fairly new to the home we have only had him for three months. Lastnight Rocco decided to grab the pug by the side of his neck and shake him and growl. i got them apart and kept them from each other the rest of the night. Then this morning he did the same thing both times mercury was "sniffing" doja. Rocco has NEVER done this he usually plays well with smaller dogs, his best friends is a miniture pincher. My question is, Is this all becuase Doja is in heat?? Should i be concerned that this will continue? ( he did break the skin on mercury last night :( but not this morning ) my pets are like my children. i dont want to get rid of him. Like i said before they usually play in harmony, no problems until now.

We have decided to get a Weimaraner and a Vizsla. All the books and people we have spoken to have said to not get them at the same time because they will bond with each other first. What is a healthy time period to wait before introducing a second dog? We plan on getting the Vizsla first so it may be an example to the high energy Weimaraner.

My dog seems to have a natural aroma resembling Fritos corn chips. Sometimes the smell is stronger than other, especially if he has been wearing some of the clothes my wife buys him. I know dogs don't sweat, but what would make this smell?

I have a beautiful Golden Lab named Maggie, but only problem is her terrible shedding all year round. I brush her coat daily and even try to keep her outside in the cooler climates, yet she still tends to shed tremendously and it is getting to a point that my hubby doesn't want her to come inside or take her in our truck for family outings.

She is such a sweet, loving and a most loyal pooch who would probably give anything to stop the shedding on her own just so that her owners would be happy. My hubby was so distraught about the hair that one day he spoke of taking her to the pound, which is out of the question in my opinion, thus this whole situation is taking a toll on our marriage and something must be done to resolve this issue right away.

Please help us someone! Any and all entries on this subject will be highly appreciated.....thanks so much!!!
