you need to teach him hand signals. Until your deaf dog is fully trained, and I highly recommend you seek the help of a highly qualified individual that has trained deaf dogs before, you should NOT allow him off leash, unless he's in a completely enclosed area and alone. It's dangerous for a deaf dog that is not trained to be let off leash, dog parks, open parks, etc.

If he's not completly deaf you can try clapping or a squeaky toy. My dog can't hear most things but if we clap loud enough or the other dog is playing with a squeaky toy he ususally hears it. Otherwise maybe try having some sort of food that smells good and see if he will come for that.

You are playing a mighty dangerous game with your dog. You will hate it worse when he gets hit by a car. No dog should be off lead in public for a variety of reasons. Hit by cars, frighten people that are afraid of dogs, run up on that leashed dog that is aggresive and will tear your sweetie to pieces, find something poisinous and eat it before you can stop him...just to name a few reasons. Get a 20 foot lead, take him to an open area and exercise him.....safely.

Get an invisible fence. You just burry some wires as a boder and your dog wears the matching collar. He won't go past the line, he won't get hurt, and you won't have to worry about him being tied up because he's free to roam anywhere within the border YOU set up for him :)

rI wish I knew what to tell you, my deaf dog got killed about two years ago and I am still crying.
OK, use sign language that your pup can see. I used to use my hand flat down and then curl up my fingers, like "come on", and he certainly came back to me. Oh, I would use all kinds of signals and signs. I had to teach him but he loved it because of the attention.

They have those dog whistles whose pitch is so high that only a dog can hear them. That might work. Hope so!
