I’m looking for some general information about what GPS systems are available – and some specific information about which system would work best for my dog.

I own a Boxer. The dog is living in the country – which means street names and such are not always going to come into play (the dog’s position may be “200 ft into the woods). Also, the dog is indoor/outdoor, so if the system depends on a collar, I’m worried about weather, humidity, moisture and such – how much does this effect the system?

Are there collar systems and chip system? And is there any clear advantage/problems to either?

I don't know much about them but they look interesting. I do know of a couple of companies here
http://www.globalpetfinder.com/
http://www.roameoforpets.com/
http://www.environmental-studies.de/products/GPS-GSM-dog-collar/dog-1.html

Some allow you to even call your dog (receiver on the collar) and call your dog. Now, how he would find you after that (other than looking at his collar) i'm not sure but they do seem like a great solution if your dog ever got lost.

I've never heard of GPS tracking systems. Microchips are for identification only. If the dog is picked up by the humane society, they can scan the chip, which has a number assigned to it. That number will pull up your contact information in the company's database.

I've never heard of a gps chip they can implant but they do have the collar ones and they are coming much smaller these days than they used to. They are also waterproof.

this may be one step in the route of a large Brother, 1984-esque, totalitarian nightmare. do you want to have a governement implant? did not imagine so, neither does are defense force, they are not migrational ducks, they are human beings. the price to placed GPS implants, preserve, and performance may be remarkable. The enemy ought to actual and painfully dig it out the quantity of abductions are very low, the media hypes them as a lot as get rankings. also, countless human beings right here seem to imagine that are enemy has quite greater GPS/Landsat hack capacity and characteristic quite greater missile inventory. they don't!
