I bought an 8wk old pomeranian yesterday and since she has been home she has been crying when she has her bowl movement. Its not to hard, kind of soft, black coloring with a dark green in it. I don't know if it is the food shes been on or if its because of another problem. She has also been scooting her bottom across the carpet quite frequently. I don't know if she is doing this because it hurts so bad to get it out and it is making her little bottom itch or what. The earliest my vet can see her is Monday evening at 5:30pm. Is there anything I can do for now or should I be concerned about tapeworms, improper food (shes on the Nutro puppy canned dog food and has been since 4wks old), she has been doing this for a while from what her owner says, and she hasn't had her shots nor her baby puppy check up yet...she will this Monday though! Please help me what should I do for the next two days?????

Most likely, she has worms.
Nearly all puppies do..it's not unusual.
You might want to try boiling some hamburger, skim off the fat, then boil some rice. Mix it together, let it cool to room temperature, then feed her..it'll help her tummy.
The worms, however, will take medicine.
Be sure to take a stool sample when you go to the vet.

I'm not sure there's anything you can do between now and seeing the vet, except feed her something different and try to keep her as comfortable as possible.

It does sound like she may have some parasite or worms. The butt scratching across the floor is a sign of tapeworms.

Sorry I can't be more helpful. Good luck at the vet!

As for the bowel movements, I'd really try to see if an animal hospital in the area can take you as soon as possible. 8 weeks is a long time to not have had any check ups or shots and if she's in pain, the sooner you know how to relieve it the better for her.

If she's scooting across the floor, she probably needs her anal glands to be cleaned out. See if there is a local groomer that can fit you in.

I really hope your little baby feels better soon!

Black, soft, tar-like stools can be a sign that the dog is bleeding internally. At 8 weeks old, she's too young to have anal gland problems.

We suggest that you get your dog to an emergency vet as quickly as possible. Take a sample of the poo with you (in a ziploc bag), so the vet can test it for blood and parasites.

this could be a pair of particularly some issues. The canines could have worms. Or his/her anal glands could desire to be expressed. . larger canines can in many situations show their very own, yet smaller canines want somewhat help. if your canines has worms, theyb additionally will try this and in specific circumstances their butt is merely itchy. with the intention to have the anal glands expressed you're able to be able to need a vet or groomer to try this considering that's nasty and pungent. a thank you to try this your self, yet pay attention that's NASTY.... What you're meant to do is place your thumb at 7 o'clock & your index finger at 5 o'clock (while you're top surpassed) in terms of the anal circumference. in case you push inward somewhat, you will experience 2 pea sized "balls" in there, one in all the two fringe of the anus. . as quickly as you experience the glands, keep on with somewhat rigidity and push the glands upward and inward, squeezing your palms at the same time, the glands could empty. a mild brownish, in specific circumstances yellowish, "juice" or fluid will come out and in specific circumstances squirt out. I surprisingly advise making use of latex gloves while doing this and having a heat, moist wash fabric interior reach to wipe up any fluid. I additionally advise doing this in a shower bath, the place you delivers your canines a shower afterwards, because of the fact the fluid stinks and could maximum probable drip onto your canines coat. If the fluid is bloody or is composed of pus, then the anal glands could be contaminated and you're able to see a Veterinarian as quickly as feasible for therapy.

My dog Tyson had this same problem a cpl years ago. We ended up taking him to the Emergency Vet. He did not have worms however, the vet told us that he had an infection in his butt. It sounds funny but there are areas around dogs' butts that extrete scents when they go to the bathroom. Sometimes these little areas get clogged, and they need to be cleaned out. It is kinda like being constipated. The vet cleared the area out at the office then gave us some antiboitics to clear up the infection.

if her anal glands are compacted she will be in pain when she poops because of the infection and they drag their bottoms when the anal glands aren't expressing by themselves. My Italian greyhound did the same thing when he had impacted anal glands. here is how you can tell. (its gross but until you get to the vet its the only way.) Lift her tail and feel on the right and left of her sphincter. If there is a bump on either side she is impacted. What the vet will do is prescribe an antibiotic and try to express the glands. If she is to sensitive they will tell you to add heat to make it pop. I put my dog in the sink and had a friend hold him while i poured really warm water on his butt. he cried, but it did eventually pop. Poor thing. To help (after it pops) switch her to hard food only for a while and then give her soft food as a treat. The hard food makes the poop more compact and helps express the glands more naturally. I use natural choice dry food cause it causes more compact poos. plus hard food is better for dogs teeth. if you have her on soft food she will get tartar build up and end up with bad breath and rotting teeth. Good Luck

I would definitely want to be seeing a vet before then even if it was not my normal one. Problems with the digestive tract can end up being life threatening if not solved promptly. At any rate, she's in great discomfort and needs the problem solved asap.

It sounds like she needs her anal glands expressed. Many small dogs are not able to do this on their own. You can have this done at a groomer's or at the vet. However, if they are impacted, you will need to have them internally expressed at the vet's office.

you should be slowly switching her to dry food and continue with the nutro brand. i would guess she has worms but your vet will need to confirm this. you could call your vet and see if you can go ahead and take a stool specimen to them today to check for worms.
