Dogs - February 2007

I got a new male puppy a couple weeks ago and he's seemed to have altered the dynamic between my other two adult dogs. I expected some tension with the addition of a new pack member, but my older dogs are acting out in weird ways. My female dog has started barking at the male dog for no reason (he'll just be sitting around minding his own business) and chasing/biting both the puppy and male dog (very uncharacteristic for her). I can tell the difference between playful wrestling and actual annoyance. I suspect she's jealous of the others, but we try to give equal attention so I'm not sure how to get her to calm down and play nice!

Everytime they start growling/barking/snapping at each other I firmly tell them no, which stops them for a few minutes, but then they start up again! What can I do to alleviate tension while they all get used to each other? My male and female dog used to get along perfectly fine before the puppy (share foodbowls/ crates/etc).

Help!

Are dogs really dying from eating Beneful?
beacuse I just read on here(yahoo answers) that Beneful kills dogs, but my dog has been eating it for a long time but she doesn't ever get sick.

My dog has these symptoms...
*Sneezes blood
*Drools
He has these monotonous sneezes, like 8 in a row ,and everytime he sneezes splats of blood.
Also he starts drooling alot and he never did this before.
He also makes these grunts which he never did as often
He recently started taking Phenobarbatol (a seizure madication for dogs) to control his seizures. He is a 5 year old labrador if it helps.

When I read this poem I cried like a baby, but it is such an inspirational poem that I had to share it.

Heaven’s Doggie Door

My best friend closed his eyes last night
As his head was in my hand
The doctors said he was in pain
And it was hard for him to stand
The thoughts that scurried through my head
As I cradled him in my arms
Were of his younger puppy years
And OH his many charms

Today there was no gentle nudge
With an intense “I love you” gaze
Only a heart that’s filled with tears
Remembering our joy filled days
But an Angel just appeared to me
And he said “You should cry no more
God also loves our canine friends
He installed a doggie door"

This might enlighten some of you folks since these words seem to be used quite often.

Mutt - Is a belittling word derived from "muttonhead" which in short came from dealings with sheep, meaning a stupid dog, given that sheep are unintelligent animals. It made it's first recorded appearance in 1901.

Mongrel - of mixed or intermediate breeds

Hope this helps make the distinction.

Years ago I had a dog that was hit at 3 months by a car.
Believe it or not, the prime permanent outcome was that it was effectively circumcised ever after and ran around almost permanently on the go for sex and with the red erectile center of its thingy constantly exposed and projected as if it was permanently in doggy copulative act!
Many of the kids would poke and laugh at it.
Being a whippet, we used to ride and run along everwhere.

So, What could I do about the whole situation??

About a month ago, my dog has this small patch of fur become discolored and then fall out. I went to my vet who told me he had a fungus. He gave my dog medication (he is taking two different pills, twice a day), a shampoo (to be used once a week), and a spray (to be sprayed twice a day). It has been two weeks and instead of the area slowing, the fungus is spreading. Anyone have any ideas how to control this. I'm afraid to go back to the vet since he charged 200 bucks last time and I'm afraid I maybe taken for a ride

We have a little miniature fox terrier that is so addicted to killing vermin that she only eats those lamb meal biscuits you get at Costco for fear of missing a second of the action. She's a little chunky but she's so high strung she seems to be burning it off. But she won't stick around inside to eat any dog food. She's like a human, all drive-thru and git'er done. The biscuits are nutritious, but it just seems weird to us.

and I am really angry, but I don't know who did it. It was on our property, and now she has died. I want to find out what happened, but how? And would it be worth it? Or should I just mourn her and then try and decide what to do once some time has passed?
My kids are really heartbroken and can't understand why someone would do this to an animal. She was just so sweet and trusted everyone. No use calling the police since I don't know exactly what happened. Any advice?

I'm about to kill my fiance's pug. He pees in the house when we are not home. (He has done that ever since my fiance adopted him 3 years ago, so I know that my moving in is not the cause.) He was neutered at the age of 8. He is now 11.

The pug is an angel every time that my fiance, or I, or both, are in the house. But when both of us leave at the same time, he will instantly pee on the floor, the wall, or whatever is within his reach. Sometimes he barks, too, but he ALWAYS pees. We know that he does it immediately because when we have gone back inside to retrieve gloves, keys, or whatever, there's the pee.

It used to be that he would only pee if left to roam loose in the house. If he was in his cage (he is more or less crate trained), he wouldn't pee. But lately, he pees even in his own den: he has figured out how to lift his leg and aim the pee right out of the cage and onto the floor. His revenge on us??

Rubbing his nose in it & smacking him do not help.
Please help!!!

The monster is usualy the two legged animal on the other end of the leash! This breed is already band in Denver colorado, please don't make it happen in your town. They are sweet loving animals that just want to please. That's why they fight, to please their master. They were in an obedient test and collies were the most aggressive. I don't know about you but pit bulls are NOT monsters.
