It's not the most well rounded diet in the world.
Many dogs live long lives on low quality foods without obvious health issues. But they are so much healthier and feel so much better if they're given excellent diets.

Beneful, Science Diet, IAMS/Eukanuba, Pedigree and other "supermarket" brands are all low quality foods. They contain way to much cheap fillers & by products.
Corn, wheat, soy & beet pulp really offer nothing to a dog by way of nutrition. They are also high allergens. Corn & soy have been linked to unexplained seizures in dogs, soy causes excess gas and beet pulp offers no nutrition and only unnecassary sugars. Dogs are carnivores, meat eaters, not grain eaters. They don't naturally digest or extract nutrition from grains. It takes up to 3 times as much of a grain based food for a dog to get proper nutrition as it does a good quality meat based food. The low quality foods are nothing but carbohydrates.
As for beneful there was an issue but don't know exactly what it was about. A few dogs did die from it.

I got a similar email about Beneful from a friend. Although I have never used the food, because the ingredients are not what I'm comfortable feeding my dogs, here's what I found out.

I don't really think it's killing dogs, somebody fed moldy beneful to their dog and it died. however, i'd suggest you stop feeding this food because it's made of bad ingredients. Try using a more natural food, like nutro ultra or authority. I promise you'll see a difference in your dog in no time.

I have never heard that Beneful kills dogs. It is not a food that I would consider feeding my dog, as its ingredients are not the greatest.

My vet says that any dog food other than the stuff they sell at the vet office is bad. He said that any food with animal by-product is not good for your dog. My dog eats ol'roy lamb and rice formula. No by product. I dont think that eating one kind of food will kill them. My other dog ate whatever dog food was cheapest at the time. SO he changed alot, and he lived for about 15 years

No. I mean do you belive everything you hear. It's just a romor and romors arn't true. That's why they're called romors. Come on if dogs die from it then why would they even make it?? If the company found out that the food made the dog get sick or die then they wouldn't continue to make it anymore ok???
