Dogs - January 2007

i was over the field yesterday, with my border collie and my 8 yr old son when we met a women with a very BIG doberman,anyway got to talking dogs started to play etc (both dogs off lead)., BUT when my son went to smooth the doberman the owner asked him not to because the dog hates children (ok dogs have thier dislikes), but when i asked the owner why she did not have muzzle on the dog obviously knowing children are a problem for him she got on her high horse and walked away. Now i love to see dogs having off the lead exercise but if you know your dog has a problem surely prevention is better than cure. if her dog attacked a child who should be put to sleep the owner or the dog. I know what i think!!!

My Norweigan Elkhound puppy Sky, is 3 months old. I never had a puppy before, normally I have cats. I had to bring her in because there is a snake in the neighborhood and it bit her brothers and sisters and she was the only puppy to survive. I brought her in Tuesday, January 23, 2007 and she was really sad and uncomfortable. I understand she is scared and misses her mom. I try really hard to get her to excersice because now all she wants to do is be in my room. Everytime she gets scared she tends to pee unintentionally everywhere. I don't want anything bad happening to her so if someone can maybe give me some guidelines on what to do, it will be a really great help and I will appriciate it so much. I want Sky to get a second chance but how can I do that If I don't know how to communicate with her?

My lab mix is 8 months old, we already got him fixed. He walked him at least once a week as time does not allow more since it gets dark early now.

He is so hyper, he jumps and pulls me leaving him with little control.

hi all, i have an 8week staffie great little pup very playful but he tries to nip all the time and if you move him away he has a nasty little growl, hes not so bad with me but does it alot with the kids. is this normal behaviour or should i be worried???

we have 9month old northern inuit,it is a well behaved ,nuetered *****.we have now purchased a siberian husky dog pup,they appear to getting on well together but the pup tends to be possesive with its toys and tends to pinch things and take them back to its puppy cage,what about them being destructive?is this a common trait.have huskies ever been trained to be off the lead for exercising/

Hi all - i'm not kidding - i just gave him a bath and while i was drying him i noticed that his wee little cute balls are purple and harder than normal (kind of looks like hickies) - i touched them and it didn't seem to bother him ....could he just be maturing from a puppy to a dog ? Should i be worried ....has anyone seen this b4 !! Thanks again !

She's a 2 yr old Chow Chow & she just got spayed yesterday (we picked her up this am), she's been very, very quiet & sleeping most of the day, she barely started drinking some water tonight & i've taken her out about 5-6 times but I want to make sure she'll be ok inside all night without going to pee. How can they hold it. It seems she's trained pretty good.

some very close friends of mine ,thier grandaughter was mauled by three dogs putting her in intensive care and causing permanant damage. Ineed to find out if all of these are required to be put down. Only one of the dogs has been put down. what can be done about the other two. where can i find laws or other cases like this. Any information or advice would be greatly appreciated thank you

My puppy (13 wks) has been eating SO MUCH less than usual these past days. could this be part of growing up?

I have a 4 1/2 month old female Peke puppy, that I am making absolutely no progress at all in housetraining. Please understand that I know she is a baby and I don't expect perfection, just some signs of progress.
She sleeps in my large bathroom at night and no accidents, but the rest of the time no matter how many times/how often I take her out she comes right back in and "goes" in the house. I take her out at least every hour, if she doesn't go I take her back out in 30 minutes. Even if she does go outside she comes right back in and goes in the house.
I have been using the bathroom as sort of a large "crate", I let her stay in there for long periods of time thru the day..no accidents.
Our home is pretty active (3 kids 11,7,5) could all the activity be distracting her or could my other dogs who are outside at the same time be distracting her?
I have heard Pekes are hard to train, does anyone know if this is true? SERIOUS ANSWERS ONLY PLEASE.

My puppy was very cute and playful when i 1st got her and now she's a lil bastard. I have 2 dogs and my older one is a perfect joy. Its the puppy whom i hate. She poops EVERY WHERE no matter what i do. When i give her treats from my hand she bites my fingers HARD. She swallows her food, vomits and then eats it. She is just too many problems. I dont have the time to get her fixed and i certianly dont want any puppies around.

I want to drop her off at the Humane Society but i dont want to go inside and give my name. I think i should go up there at night and tie her to a tree. someone will find her the next morning. I need to keep a good record with the humane society so i can try another dog this summer!! What should i do with this pain in the azz dog?!?!
