I've heard that dogs attract sharks. Is it true and why is it?

No dogs do not attract sharks. How could they? A dog can't beyond the break line even if he does decide to go for a swim. The breaking water would drown him or push him back to shore.

A point break far enough away from shore which makes surfing possible exist only in limited places and most dogs can't swim that far.

Hi
Until the 16th century, sharks were known to mariners as "SEA DOGS".

According to the OED the name "shark" first came into use after Sir John Hawkins' sailors exhibited one in London in 1569 to refer to the large sharks of the Caribbean Sea, and later as a general term for all sharks. The name may have been derived from the Mayan word for fish, xoc, pronounced "shock" or "shawk".

Sharks have keen olfactory senses, with some species able to detect other sharks or SEA DOGS ( or dogs attract sharks).

I don't think a dog paddling in the water would attract a shark any more than a human splashing around in the surf. There's always sharks in the water but they usually don't attack. Most attacks that happen in shallow surf are by accident. This also depends on the type of sharks(some are more agressive than others).

I never heard of that one
Sharks are usually attracted to blood, they can smell one drop of blood in 25 gallons of water!
Their eyes are also ten times more sensitive then human beings, they can even see in pitch darkness. Besides it doesnt really neeed its eyes coz it has receptors in its snout which can detect even the tiniest electric current (like a heartbeat for example..)

I know I havent exactly answered your question but Im sure dogs come under what Ive mentioned above.....
