All dogs shed unless you get a hairless dog.
When you comb/brush a dogs fur, fur comes out. That means, the dog sheds. Shedding = losing hair/fur.

Hairless dogs have (obviously) no hair to shed.
Hairless breeds:

Hairless Khala
Chinese Crested Hairless (sometimes has fur on feet/head)
American Hairless Terrier
Xoloitzcuintle
Peruvian Inca Orchid

However, there are some breeds that shed less than others, these are:

Maltese
Poodle
Bichon Frise
Shih-Tzu
Havanese
Tibetan Terrier
Puli
Yorkshire Terrier

All dogs with fur shed. Some may shed very little to almost nothing but they all shed.

West highland White terriers (Westies) don't shed much. Ours is an inside dog and I don't notice hair everywhere. You do need to give them a good brush after washing and keep them clipped and groomed, if you are not showing they are not very high maintenance. They do demand attention and exercise daily, but other wise are a great fun dog to have around.

A poodle is the way to go standard size not the smallest as they tend to be smarter.Originally bred as a hunting dog but very placid. Ofcourse you will have to groom dog and clip the hair occassionally or have this done. Can be clipped like a lamb which looks real cute. Extra work means dog will smell better and also that you will learn to communicate on a day to day level. so goodluck with your choice....

Go to YAHOO! and type in "dog breed selector" Several questionnaires will come up. They will ask you about your lifestyle and preferences. This should give you a good idea about the breed good for you. Once you get it narrowed down, go to akc.com and look at the breed standard. then you may want to volunteer at a shelter or rescue so you can meet the dogs in person and see if you connect. Another resource might be to go to a dog show. Whatever you do, don't go to a pet shop or a backyard breeder

Chinese Crested Hairy to Hairless breed (toy breed) they don't shed and have no doggie odor even when wet. Extremely agile, smart, loyal and are not little yapper. Just make sure you do your homework with a reputable breeder.

Miniature schnauzers are actually known to be hypo-allergenic, they don't shed and their fur causes no known allergies. Look it up on the net and you can find out all about them. They are awesome, loving, loyal, playful and very smart and easy to train.

my shih tzu has so much hair (people call him a "fur ball") that you would think he sheds like crazy. But he doesn't at all!
