Thank you for rescueing and taking him to the vet! Did not say how old he is? Since we do not know how he was surviving before you found it may be that he was a bit dehydrated. May not be use to having a full water bowl. I encourage food/water down at all times. I do rescue and we get so many dogs that have gone without. They are like a kid in a candy store. It is like they are afraid if they don't drink and eat what is down then it will be taken away. The pup may just be making up for doing without.

It will take a few weeks for it to be secure and feel safe that there will always be food and water and love! If it had worms pretty bad then it was not getting the benefit of any food/water it did find.

Give the pup time to settle in. Keep plenty of water and food available and it should quit gulping down. Should not be a problem. Just make sure you take outside to potty as soon as waking up!

If you are taking the water dish up he might be trying to get enough water to hold him over until you put it back down again. I can understand feeding a dog at certain times, but the pup should always have fresh water available to him. If he knows you are going to take it up he probably wants to get what he can while it's available. Try leaving it down for him for a day and see if this changes. If he is having other problems like not eating or not wanting to play, I would take him to your vet immediately. It also wouldn't hurt to call your vet and ask him/her if this could be a problem, but I bet he's just trying to hoard the water.

I don't know how old your puppy is, but call your Vet that gave the shots and worming and mention this. Your Vet has seen the dog recently and could advise you better.
Puppies play a lot and if the heat is on inside and you keep your place really warm that would add to thirst. There are health conditions that can too but your Vet would best advise you on that.

please have your vet check your pup for cushings disease. one of the symptoms is excesive thirst. we have an older dog who has this disease & one of the first symptoms we noticed was too much water consumption.
