I bought a $3,000 pure-bred show pitbull as a 8 week old puppy, becuase of health issues I had to give the puppy to a family member for raising until my health improved. I now have the dog back with me and he is now 12 months old. I want to still get his ears cropped because I plan on showing him at dog shows. Is it ok to crop a 12month old dog ears assuming it was done under proper proffesional medical treatment, anethesia etc.?? I have heard it is ok and that all the myths about how it is not possible without hurting the dog because it has matured is not true. Can someone with a real proffesional answer please clarify this becuase I have a champion show dog and I really want to get this done.

When you got your pit bull, was it an adult or a puppy? I want to adopt an adult pit bull when i move out of the apartment and get a house, and enough money to own a dog. I have never owned a dog before, but i have worked with dogs my whole life, starting with walking dogs, moving to dog sitting, and volunteering at an animal shelter, and i now work at a vet clinic. And i have asked about adopting an adult pit bull before. A lot of people have told me its a bad idea, but i have a feeling these people who say this have never owned a pit bull. I have met so many pit bulls through my experiences that are Amazing animals. Especially the ones who have been abused. I have never met such a loving and forgiving creature. And i have done TONS of research on dogs in general, and especially pit bulls. I know they are the dog for me. But people say it is a bad idea because i don't know an adult pit bulls background. People who OWN pit bulls, what do you think??

We've been chosen by a 15 lb door darter that we have decided to keep, but now he is getting over our 4 ft fence. My daughter loves this dog so I've talked to an in ground. fence salesman, but it was very costly. Are any of the online or petstore do-it-yourself types reliable?

Pit bulls were never bred for human aggression. They were nopt frist bred for dog fighting. they do not have locking jaws. They do not soooo many other things . Go read here are some web sites to get started I have done part of the work for you:
http://www.pitbullsontheweb.com/petbull/breedinfo.html

Put down the news paper that slants thier stories to seel papers. Turn off the news who never tells you about other dog attacks because they do nothing for ratings. Read it is the only way to learn.

signs.....one was a giant size stuffed dog that I saw in a department store, that looked just like Max.....and the other last night, was a stuffed baby puppy that looked like Max, and both times I just happpened to see it. Do you think that this could be a sign from Max, telling me that he is ok, and for me not to feel sad? I know this may sound weird, but tell me what you think.

I found a tiny little worm in my dog's bowl. Could that mean she has worms in her stomach? Is it common to find worms in a dog's bowl if they are infected? I'm new to the whole pet owner thing and just realized that washing your dog's bowl needs to be a regualr thing, which I haven't been doing. Could that worm just be from a bacterial growth in the bowl and not from my dog?

I have raised and taken care of pit bulls most of my life. They are not all inbred as suggested. Yes they are fighters by nature. But so are most people. You must show kindness to get kindness. Pits are from as far back as you can remember. They were the faithful dogs of the past. Because of their love to please they are condemned. Why not punish the people who cause the problem and leave the breed alone. Anything with teeth will bite. One of the worst biters I know is the chiwawa. Maybe we should band them also. Not all pits are bad as with mankind some have the wrong up bringing.

I was told to start vaccinating my pom puppies at 8 wks. They are only 4 wks now, but I would like to know which vaccinations are necessary? I have done some research and have found conflicting information on vaccinations. What do you all think. Thanks for your help.

I have 3 (4 wk) old pomeranian puppies. We had to give the momma dog back due to her being aggressive to her puppies yesterday. They were started on puppy mush and replacement milk last week. How long should they stay on that food, and how long do I keep mixing it with the puppy milk? I am feeding them every 4 hrs. I dont know what schedule they should be on. Any in depth answers on how to care for puppies till 8 wks (feeding, housebreaking, etc) would be greatly appreciated.

Well I want a dog that wouldn't mind be alone for 3 or 4 hours a day. A dog that wouldn't be prone too many diseases, just a few. A dog that would be an indoor dog which would me I want it small. A dog that likes to go on walks to the park (down the street from me) maybe one or twice a day. A dog that is active but just not tooo active! A dog that could be an average shedder not a heavy one just average, and a dog that really doesn't have to go to the groomer that much. And a dog that immensely loves his pack a.k.a. his human family. If you find something close to this please tell me, and thank you evr so much! =^)

Someone please help! :-)

I have adopted an adult female Great Dane and she is going into season NOW and I need help with fabricating a "diaper" for her! I bought the largest disposable diapers made at PetSmart and they are half as big as they need to be and won't even meet around her waist.

If anyone has had to come up with something for their dane or know a friend that may have had to deal with the same problem, please ask them how they got thru it!

Also please direct me to any sites that might have something large enough for her. I've had no luck finding anything large enough.. She's the typical 130 lbs...

Thanks so much! Any ideas or help in this matter is greatly appreciated as you can imagine what a mess I'm about to have on my hands! Literally!

Thanks in advance!
Heather

I have a 4 month old siberian husky who is constantly getting in the trash & chewing on things she's not supposed to. I've read that they are very stubborn & really never get out of the habit of chewing & to grab them by the scruff of the neck & growl at her like her mother would & that works on some things but not others so can anyone suggest a way to try to break her from getting into the garbage & chewing?

also how do I get her to stop trying to bite my kids & growling at them when they come near her even if their just trying to walk by her. she does this mostly when she has something that she's not supposed to & they try to take it away or if she is laying down & thay get near her BUT she doesn't do it to adults or my 7 month old son who actually pulls on her....help

I'm getting a puppy in (hopefully) a month or two. I've thought about feeding normal dog food but it seems that a raw diet is much healthier for dogs.

What ingredients should I use?
How much of it?
How many times per day?

I'd probably be getting a female Labrador so I'd need something that a Labrador would feel full eating.

I'd prefer ingredients that I could buy at the supermarket or butcher, not online or somehwere I need to go hours away to find. I live in Australia so please do not suggest Wal-Mart or PetSmart etc.

Thanks.
