Wow, that's a good question. Both breeds are EXTREMELY smart and willing to learn new things. But it really depends on your lifestyle to get the dog that best suits you. Both are very active both when a puppy and when full grown. German Shepherds may be a bit less work when grooming because of the Husky's thick thick fur. If you live in an aparment, a Husky is not for you. They don't do well when confined to an apartment all day. If you do keep a Husky in an aparment, make sure he gets PLENTY of exercise, just try not to do it in really warm weather. Huskies can also be quite difficult to train, but every dog is different of course. German Shepherds on the other hand can be very laid back when confined to an apartment, but like any dog, they must be trained as a puppy when you first get him/her. Also, if you have any other animals, German shepherds will possibly do better, most Huskies get along with other pets in the house as long as they were brought up together. They are both wonderful, SMART dogs but it depends on your situation really. Hope this helped a little!

What you need to do is research on both dogs. You should look up their temperament, how big both can get, how much exercise each requires, what their heat and cold tolerance is, etc. . Then you need to decide which one fits your life better.
I am a trainer and one of the things that get on my nerves the most is when someone complains that their husky is pulling a lot. HELLO it's a SLED DOG. If you don't want to deal with harder pulling issues and don't think you'll have the patience, do not get a husky. Both dogs can try to be a little bossy and will want to take over if you do not train them. That is common in working dogs. It is important to get into a positive training class. It is also important to keep them busy with "jobs". Working dogs need to keep physically and mentally active. If you don't find them a good job to do, they will find their own job to do and it's not always a good one. I do really beg of you to do serious research and a lot of thinking before you get either one to make sure it's what you want. I see so many people get dogs because they think they're "pretty" or "cool" and they don't do research on them first. Then they get upset with some habit the dog does that is normal for the breed, take it out on the dog, and it ends up in the pound when it was the human's fault to begin with for not thinking it through.

i am a first time owner and i have a husky. it's not bad, it takes some work but it's all worth it. all puppies take sometime. huskies do need exercise, i just take my husky out for a run/walk everyday and some days you can take a break, but those days you should play a little extra at home with toys (fetch). huskies are stubborn but they will listen if they acknowledge that your the alpha. huskies are very smart dogs and are very friendly. watch the movie eight below, love that movie. of course those dogs are professional trained but you can see that they are easy to train like any other dog

It really deoends on what you want from a dog...

Both dogs will grow up to be big (the German Shepherd will grow up to be a bit bigger). They are both working dogs, and will need lots of training and exercise or they will develop behavioral problems.

The German Shepherd will be more protective, less likely to wander off, but more likely to be aggressive to other animals, and if not properly socialized, has the potential to be aggressive to humans, too.

The Siberian Husky is much less protective, but has a tendancy to wander (may never be an "off leash" dog). They tend to dig, and as a rule, are friendly to other dogs. They tend to be very vocal (an issue if you have close neighbors).

Hope this helps...

Siberian Huskies are not good for the first time owner...I breed both breeds...from experience Huskies are very stubborn, hard to train, don't do well with smaller dogs or small children...they like to dominate. They are runners...need fenced in yards, they are naturally curious animals but huskies can be VERY destructive when they are bored. For health problems you should be in the clear if purchased from a breeder. Though Huskies tend to have more health problems. German Shepherds are my breed of choice for first time owneror owners with children or other pets. Shepherds are ideally easier to train.....my pups already know sit, down, stay and come in both English and German at 12 weeks old...My Huskies take till they are about 20-24 months to get that. Huskies do not do good in hot weather...and like to be outside in a secure pen. Take from me a breeder of both breeds...German Shepherds are much better dogs....none of my huskies like it in the house because it is too hot....Good Luck...remember to buy from a Reputable breeder...if you e-mail me you location I can recommend a breeder for both breeds.....Below are one of my Shepherds and Huskies

I have a German shepard and have to say that he is the best pet I've ever had. He is the most loyal dog, he is protective but also very sweet. Both breeds are beautiful animals. I would consider what your limitations and needs are and then go from there.
