I own a purebred wire-haire (rough coat) Jack Russell Terrier (he's a rescue) and he sheds. The length of a dogs hair has little to do with how much he sheds, at least in this instance.

Even though his hair isn't all that long, there are two layers of it, and he sheds some. The smooth coats supposedly shed MORE even though their fur is shorter.

They aren't a non-shedding breed, although he sheds a lot less than our former dogs did and than our other dog (a Heinz 57) does.

The length of a dog's hair has nothing to do with how much they shed! I have a toy fox terrier that sheds more than any dog I've seen.

My son has two Jack Russells. One has the longer wiry hair and the other has the softer, shorter hair. The first one (wiry hair) sheds quite a bit. They have to use the lint brush everytime they leave the house.

So the answer is yes, they do.

You didn't say if you had one already or not.. They are short hair dogs so shedding is much less than a long hair dog.. Do know that they are natural hunters and even if well trained, it is in their nature to bolt out the door and be gone at a high rate of speed. Many are lost to their owners because they will wander so far, and anyone who finds them may keep them rather than do the right thing.

My JRT sheds....and depending on the time of year, he can shed A LOT! He is a smooth coat, and those little hairs are like wires. Yes, they shed.

There are different kind of hair on JRT, some have wire hair and shed less, than the smooth coat ones but they all still shed.
