Put down the news paper that slants thier stories to seel papers. Turn off the news who never tells you about other dog attacks because they do nothing for ratings. Read it is the only way to learn.

thank you. and bless you for taking the time to find the documents that say otherwise. this should quiet those who are saying show me proof. problem is they'll have to click and sit and read to educate themselves. you don't happen to have a live feed video because that's what they are looking for. but make sure it's full of drama and have a bandwagon and some tar and feathers nearby so they can jump on it and go on their round up. again. thank you.

lmao. oh you're good. found video. think they can still click on it though? that will take effort.

ok i could be on here all night. any dog's jaw can "lock" have you ever had a chihuahua hanging from your hand, how about a yorkie? it may not do as much damage but those little s*#ts are not letting go either. call your vet. ask them how many aggressive pits they see. call a vet in a lower income area, they see the most and ask them how many are aggressive? you're going to be surprised as to what they tell you.

I've met some very sweet, well-socialized pit bulls and pit bull crosses that I wouldn't hesitate to own. These dogs have been obedience-trained and their owners are accustomed to working with strong-willed animals. I wouldn't recommend a pit bull for a novice owner because they do require a good working knowledge of canine behavior.

The problem pit bulls are usually the ones that have been goaded into becoming aggressive because their owner wants an "attack dog." Many people don't seem to know the difference between a protection-trained dog that's under control and a mean dog that's just plain dangerous.

Another source of problems with the breed is the fact that they're considered a status dog by some people, who want them for their tough appearance. Any time a dog becomes popular, you're bound to have breeders who want to make a buck and who don't care if their dogs have known temperament flaws. Overbreeding and poor breeding have hurt the pit bull in the last few years.

And as I said earlier, I don't think this is a breed for someone who doesn't have experience with dogs in general or the so-called fighting breeds in specific. A knowledgible handler will spot potential behavior problems and deal with them, whereas a novice might not recognize possible trouble when they see it.

Pits are like any other dog -- good bloodlines, good training, and a good owner make all the difference between a wonderful, loving animal and one that's just a disaster looking for a location.

Good question.

Kind of like that saying I forgot how it really goes that if you have a good experience you tell few people, but if you have a bad experience you tell everyone. Some people just follow by word of mouth or other experience of dogs and don't really truely know for themselves. (Thank you for the links very informative). Like anything a few bad owners ruin it for the many good owners. It's not the breed, but the dog and the owner together. You treat ANY dog with with neglect/abuse or evne train the dog to be an attack dog and it'll happen. Like the post below says.

Personally I think Pit Bulls are cute in their own way, like any other dog. I knew of a two pit bulls that took the personality of how they were treated and they ended up agressive (which is a good example of the few bad owners). They were outside all the time in this really bad yard and barked at everyone. I feel sorry for them. They were so cute. I like Pit Bulls despite that ( I like the multi-color ones).I think all dogs take the personality of their owners, how they're treated, etc.

In fact I got bite once by a dog and it definately wasn't a Pit Bull (don't even remember the breed or dog), and even that dog bite didn't make me form this horrible opinion about that breed of a dog or make me dislike dogs. I just brushed it off and like now I can hardly remember it (only way I do remember it is that I have a scar on my thumb). I never got malled or attacked by a Pit Bull perhaps because I ask a person if it's okay to touch or play with their dog before going up to the dog or simply because of something else. But you make a strong point, a very good point.

You are so right. I have been doing so much research on pit bulls. They are THE most misunderstood breed of dog. My friend came over today who HAS a pit bull, and SHE thought that pit bulls had a locking jaw!! i couldn't believe her when she said that... Anyways, i know a lot of the news papers and tv say 'a pit bull TYPE dog attacked..." Which usually means just a regular dog, but they want peoples attention so they use the words 'pit bull type' or 'pit bull mix' which just makes everything worse. i work at a vet clinic, and a lady i work with has 5 dogs. One of them is a pit bull, and one of them is a cocker spaniel lab mix. Her cocker mix bit a lady that lived on her street. The lady knew that Jamie owned a pit bull, so she told the court and news that a Pit bull 'attacked' her. When the pit bull was the good dog, and the cocker mix was the one to bite. It was printed in the news paper as a pit bull attack. People like that who just want attention, and the media who just wants to make money give pit bulls a bad name. There is not one breed that is born more aggressive than any other breed. I was bitten in the face by a GOLDEN RETRIEVER 7 times in a row. He left scars on my face. But no one wants to hear about america's most beloved dog attacking someone.

I was just reading some of the answers... people are STILL posting un educated answers. Pit bulls are NOT the most likely dog to bite or attack a person....

Wonderful job!! If you made one person realize the true facts about the pit bull you have accomplished a great feat. I hope many have at least gone to a couple of the sights you mentioned. Very educational and thank you for all your hard work. I remain, a pit bull lover!

You are so right! Finally someone who knows. They were bred to catch bulls in a pit. Thus came the name pit bulls. Thank you so much for being for well educated in this matter. I wish all people knew how wonderful a pit bull really was.

yeah i asked a question about my half pit bull/border collie puppy and people did noting but tell me how those dogs are bad. read what someone said...and all i asked was if anyone had that combination..............................................................................................
And you are getting a pit bull mix why? In some states, and in parts of Canada, pit bulls are outlawed. do you know why? To inform you, they are bred to be fighters, and the ones that make it into the pet trade are deemed by the breeder (usually backyard breeders that fight them on Friday nights for big buckos) at not vicious enough. As a pet, some are just lovely. But enough of them "snap" that you read often enough in the papers that one tears off grandma's arm, and kills her. In your place, I'd opt for a different combo, sweetie. A good friend of mine is a vet practicing some 25 years. He will put down any pit, or pit mix FOR FREE. Reconsider, hon. You'll be happier and not have to keep an eye out, if you opt for breeds of dogs bred to be companion animals...... (Just as an aside, border collies are herders -- they instinctively chase things -- cattle, sheep, goats -- until they drop. You choice of a mix is a tough bag to call as for its adult personality......

Why,heaven forfend ,they might have to CHANGE what passes for their MINDS!!!
That's too much like WORK & is SCARY!

Exactly. you can train a lab(asupposedly perfect pet for kids) to be mean and attack. you can train a pitbull to be a nice little puppy dog. Its on you how they act, not the breed

I'm sorry but pitbulls are for the most part, dangerous and this isn't an opinion. Why do you think so many places are outlawing them? Why do you like them? They aren't very cute and they aren't smart. Learn to love another breed. Mastiffs are big, bad looking dogs yet they are much sweeter and don't attack nearly as much as pits do! And there jaws do lock! I had a pit and compared to the retrievers and shelties I've had, it's a joke how much more intelligent they are than pits!
