i want a small-medium puppy...one that is small enough to be allowed to stay inside but not something that is going to require a lot of "maintenance". I have a couple of cats already who rule the house and are bigger than some small dogs (one is 15 lbs and the other is 12 lbs - both about 1 1/2 years old...) so I want a puppy that will actually get to be a little bigger than these 2 but not something that will be very "noisy" either...any suggestions for me? my husband gets back in about a month and i wanted to get it for him as a surprise...THANKS!!!

I saw posted in an answer on this site a height and weight chart for Great Danes and wonder if there is one for Labradors. I'm adopting a pup who looks to be a pure yellow lab in every way, except for short legs. Since he's a rescue, he might be a mix. At 5-6 mos old he weighs 28 lbs. Is he likely to reach 55-60 lbs, even with those short legs? He isn't ill-proportioned, just a bit height-challenged! I don't care if he is a mix, I just don't want to end up with a small dog. Medium to large is what we want.

I am currently fostering this dog and trying to find a forever home for her. People are very very interested and then once they see a picture of her they tell me they've changed their mind. Is she really that ugly? Here is her pic

My 6 year old male lab has always leaked pee. He just dribbled when he was a puppy and the vet said he should grow out of it. Well he hasn't and last week he got really sick and started leaking a lot. He was hospitalized and they couldn't find anything wrong with him. They put him on medication for vomiting, but he is still leaking pee like crazy. Anyone ever heard of a problem like this?

I got an American Eskimo Miniature about 2 months ago, and he hasn't got better with nipping, and he is just plain bad. He was SupposeD to be an inside dog (didn't happen!) He runs out and doesn't want to come back in because he wants to play with the neighbor's dog!

What should I do with my puppy, Tazzy?!?!? I really need some advice, because my mom is threatening to give him away! I get mad at him a lot but I still love him!

My husband got me a cocker spaniel female for our anniversary back in september, she's 7 months old now, she was great, we have another cocker spaniel, he's a male and he's great too, our female was doing very well at adjusting, except that everytime that we went somewhere and left her home and come back, our stuff got tore up, she even chewed up my husbands expensive designer glasses and she has done that ever since, paper, and anything that she can get ahold of, we started taking her with us but when we go in the store she tares up the truck too, it seems like she don't like being without us, but our other dog doesn't do that, how can we stop this, we can't keep taking her everywhere we go and have her destroy the car too, someone suggested to get her a pet taxi or a cage, is that such a good idea? Help!!

We got him on the 20th of december this year. He was fine, eating well, sleeping well, playing well. Last night he got diahrrea and got better later. This afternoon he got diahrrea again and he hasn't eaten or had anything to drink today! I gave him one tablet of chewable pepto-Bismol because a golden retriever puppy book said for diahrrea, give 1 tablet per 5 pounds. He hasn't been very active today and my family is worried. Besides going to the vet, what else can we do?

I am torn. I really want a dog, specifically a lab. I've never been into smaller dogs, but I am reconsidering the size of a lab and think a smaller, or medium sized dog might be better. I don;t want a yappy little dog. I really want a big dog, or lab type dog, in a small dogs body. Any ideas??

I got an 11 wk old English Toy Spaniel. Our vet discovered he has a significant heart murmur. Had 2nd appt w/ specialist who did an ultra-sound/echocardiogram - says it’s a grade III/VI murmur. Echo results show measurements are 1/3 to 1/2 of normal. She said due to his small size/young age it's hard to predict at this time, recommends another ultra-sound in 4-5 wks. Says best would be to take him to Davis where they'd also be able to confirm if it’s a genetic defect from his parents ... if not Davis, get him in to a Board certified cardiologist.

This pup has such a great personality, we bonded w/ him right away. There’s no way I’d return him for another pup under the healthy pup guarantee - he wouldn't be able to be resold, so he'd be killed. We are going to give the pup the best life we can for as long as we can. Seems it's a wait & see situation. I'm hoping for the best, preparing for the worst.
He is also hydrocephalic, but he seems very alert, inquisitive, & intelligent.

Maltese: 1 1/2 yrs old, male, was very healthy and active
Symtons: Xrays show large amounts of fluid around the abdomen area. Extreme low activity level, seems to walk as if in pain from all the fluid. Problems urinating in the house uncontrollably and going a few days without pooping (probably from the fluid pushing up his organs). No vomit, high temp, or blood in stools, but all swelled up in the middle from fluid. Blood tests show kidney and liver were normal, but his protein enzyme level is .2 (normal is >2.5) and the vet drained most fluid to relief him (all clear fluid). We were sent home with 3 meds: Lasix, an antibiotic, and prednizone. He said to try this and if the prednizone works, we would have to keep him on it for life. Any other options or thoughts on what is causing this? We did change his food brand around the same time this all happened, but we are going to put him back on Science diet now just in case that could help. It breaks our hearts-help!

Just received a Christmas puppy. She's six weeks old but will probably grow to be about 40 pounds. I'd rather go with a harness instead of a collar, but I'm afraid she'll outgrow it so fast it won't be worth the money. Does anyone know where I can get a good adjustable harness that will grow with her?

My friend owns a chihuahua and last week noticed a lump over her right shoulder that isn't painful, but wasn't there before the dog was given to her. Prior to my friend getting the dog, the dog had received her shots. Some thought was swelling around the injection site, but haven't heard of giving a dog a shot over their shoulder. Can anyone shed some light on this or provide a website that we can check out?
