they are both equal really. but a great dane only has a life span for about 8to 9 years. but it all depends on the person doing the training. great danes are very loyal to thier owners. my son has one and he is very loyal, smart and train they catch on very very quick.
i would do some research on both breeds and then see.

I believe that the Great Dane would be friendlier, and easier to train, but the Mastiff's are extremely loyal! Bread em to make the perfect dog! hehe

I can't comment on the Mastiff.
We had 2 Great Dane females, though. Any adult Danes we had were always very territorial, but usually didn't bother people off the property.
One of the females we had was very easygoing. The other one would attack any dog or human if she was commanded to or if she was just pissed off that they were in her yard. She would attack male dogs just as fast as a female dog. Once she picked up a 100lb. male black lab and shook it to death like it was a cat. So my experience is that female Danes can come from either end of the spectrum.

I think Great Dane's are a bit more laid back, and mastiffs are a bit more "guardish".

Try researching them on the internet, or talking to breeders. I personally like mastiffs better. But i think they are BOTH great dogs.

It depends on the breeding, handling and training of the dogs. If you get your dog from a reparable breeder you should have no problems with either breed. Both can be friendly, loyal and easy to train.

I would say great Dane, I have never had one but my neighbor has one and she is great, really friendly, and doesn't chase cars : ) I also had a friend that had a couple and had to get rid of them when she moved but they were also really friendly
