DO NOT PUT A RUBBER BAND ON THEIR TAILS!!! If you cannot pay the vet to do it, then you certainly will not be able to pay the massive fines you will get for animal abuse, not to mention they will take the puppies from you. The rubber band does hurt greatly, and usually ends up with an infection. Wait until you have the money, to get in done right. :)

You can dock a tail yourself if you know about the process. Tail banding does run a risk for infection but so does the trip to a vets office. Infections can occur anytime a surgical procedure is done. If you so choose to do this on your own then by all means search for advice from someone with experience. The longer after a few days old you wait the more likely you cannot do this yourself. The bone begins forming and you will run higher risk of hurting the puppy greater and greater chance of infection as the puppy is more able to get around. Please do not do it on your own though if you do not feel comfortable about the procedure.

You should NEVER put a rubber band around your puppies tails. This is slow and painful, and it can also cause infection. If you can't afford to take them to the vet to get their tails docked, then leave their tails long. And i think it would be best not to breed your dogs anymore until you can afford the costs of the puppies.

Well it is either pay a vet bill, or take a risk of losing the puppy due to infection, or disfiguring the puppies due to your botching up docking the tails. Using a rubber band is not advised and is painful.

Are you kidding? You're asking on the internet how to perform a medical procedure? AND you allowed your dog to get pregnant yet can't afford to properly take care of it. Good thing she hasn't had any problems... what if she needs a c-section, develops an infection? An unspayed dog is prime for health problems and since you can't afford a big vet bill, guess the dog is S-O-L.
Do you know how many purebred boxers are in pounds and boxer rescue needing forever homes? Incredibly irresponsible. Sad really!

If you can't afford a vet bill you shouldn't be breeding your dog. You shouldn't be docking the tails yourself. You can hurt them, get it infected just to name a few things. Tail docking is cruel enough even when the vet does it.

Vets only charge about $5 to do dog's tails and declaws. It could be a little higher according to where you live, but not by any means a large vet bill. Do you know how much it would cost if you lost the litter because of a botched job? There would be no pups to sell. They would all be dead. please have this done by a VET!

I own/show/breed a breed with docked tails. You would be best served by having a licensed veterinarian do the procedure. He/she can do it at a nominal fee and the chance of infection is greatly reduced. There will be less scars showing when professionally done.... on the tails and the dewclaws. BTW.... they should be done at about 5 days of age.

You are considering doing this yourself without ever seeing it done or talking to a professional? If done wrong this could cause irreparable damage to the dogs tail, and possibly even kill it from infection. I suppose you plan on cutting the dew claws off on your own as well? Just take the poor pups to the vet and have it done, call and get a price quote first, but it should be done within 72 hours of a pups birth so don't put it off.
