Local shelters are full of dogs - young and not so young - who need a good home. Check them out. Those particular dogs seem to be very loyal - I have one. The other one, whom I bought as a puppy doesn't appreciate anything.
I'd go for a shelter dog anytime.

Go to the local animal shelter or SPCA. A free pet costs more in the long run because you have to take it to the vet for sterilization and vaccinations. A shelter will sterilize and vaccinate the animal, and the adoption fee is generally alot less than it would cost to take the animal to the vet. If you adopt from a shelter, you can bring it back if it has health problems too.

if you can't afford to pay an adoption fee for a dog then you won't be able to pay for the upkeep of a healthy pet. vet services and food and proper care all cost money. there's is no such thing as a free dog.

Why a free dog? If you can't afford to adopt a dog, you can't support a dog. A dog needs food, medical care, supplies, etc. They can be expensive.
