Just received a Christmas puppy. She's six weeks old but will probably grow to be about 40 pounds. I'd rather go with a harness instead of a collar, but I'm afraid she'll outgrow it so fast it won't be worth the money. Does anyone know where I can get a good adjustable harness that will grow with her?

Our vet recommended a harness, she says it's safer for a pup or a small dog than a collar. None of the harnesses we looked at would be adjustable enough to fit a dog from puppyhood to a 40-pound adult, though. We needed to buy two, and our dog topped out at fifteen pounds. We got ours at PetSmart. They are good at answering your questions, and they took the time to fit two or three harnesses on Stanly to make sure of the fit. You could always donate the outgrown harness to a shelter or rescue group.

A collar is better .
My dog got soars under his armpits after a walk using a harness . A harness also will encourage your dog to pull .
Sled dogs and horses wear harnesses .

Harnesses don't give you as much control over your dog. They make leash training harder. Puppies take longer to adapt to a harness than to a collar.
