We got him on the 20th of december this year. He was fine, eating well, sleeping well, playing well. Last night he got diahrrea and got better later. This afternoon he got diahrrea again and he hasn't eaten or had anything to drink today! I gave him one tablet of chewable pepto-Bismol because a golden retriever puppy book said for diahrrea, give 1 tablet per 5 pounds. He hasn't been very active today and my family is worried. Besides going to the vet, what else can we do?

I am taking him to the vet, what I'm asking is, what else I can do besides just taking him to the vet? Sugar water is better than regular water? Why? How much sugar? What should the solution be like? How much solute and how much solvent?

I have a papillon right now who has the symptoms as yours does. Many others are just going to say TAKE IT TO THE VET NOW
Indeed do take it to a vet. Fast, but as we all know we cant do that as fast as we should or could, busy during holiday season!
Try putting water in a cup then getting a spoon and filling the spoon with water the spoon in your hand ( cupping it) and bring it near the dogs nose, then she might drink it if not I have no clue, because it worked with my dog who has the same problem.
I'm taking it to the vet tomorrow
As for food try getting ham or beef or anything human, your dog will indeed eat that because it is human and tastes great. Don't do this forever just until you can see your vet, your dog needs food and that can be digested.
All of luck for both of our dogs!

You shouldn't ask ''besides going to the vet''.
That's exactly what you need to do, because the fact that your pup isn't drinking and has diarrhea, should automatically make you start the car and call the vet.
Poor pup will become dehydrated extremely quick. Has he been vaccinated against Parvo, distemper, etc? If not, that's even MORE of a reason to get that puppy into a vet.

you have done all you can do, take him to the vet now. he could have parvo, or it could be just a simple virus. either way he needs to be seen by a professional vet. if it is parvo, it can get much worse very fast and he can die.
ok great you're taking him to the vet, don't feed him tonight, just give him some pedialyte, if you have to give it to him with a syringe, most 24 hour pharmacies or the baby isle will have a dosing syringe. this will help keep him hydrated. sugar water won't help as well as the pedialyte since it helps keep important electolytes in balance that are lost due to diarrehea.

You need to be very worried. Puppies and unvaccinated animals are suspectible to deadly diseases that are easily transmitted.
Get some baby food (meat) and using your finger, put some food in the puppies mouth. Use a small needleless syringe and give sugar water- not a lot. Your puppy will dehydrate very quickly. (I'm concerned about parvo)
Most importantly, go to the vet first thing in the morning.

i'm so sorry... here is my answer for what that's somewhat worth (no longer likely lots) TAKE THE canines decrease back. The safeguard replaced into fairly irresponsible in providing you with a 7 week previous ill domestic dog. You paid money for a canines which you haven't any longer have been given any concept of if this is going to proceed or no longer. Take the canines decrease back and ask them to handle it and while its adoptable enable you already know. AT 7 weeks it continues to be youthful to go away mom and that they are or could be greater geared up to handle chew inhibition and issues that the mummy canines normallly teaches. socializing etc. the better respitory must be chilly or must be something alongside with valley fever or distemper. in basic terms a vet could understand, and the safeguard could have vet and could have enable you already know what replaced into incorrect and the thank you to handle. additionally at 7 weeks till it has had complete photos that's greater probably to contract parvo... they could understand this. Shelters aer tremendous source for paying for canines yet on condition that completed appropriate... no longer all canines could be accompanied appropriate this 2nd. IMHO. playstation there are a zillion domestic dogs and canines that choose for love and interest so look ahead to this one to get greater useful (consistent with danger they had enable you nurse it with THEIR vets training).

it sounds like your dog has parvo virus and you really need to get him to the vet cause lack of food and water will lead to dehydration and will kill him quickly and if he does have parvo then if you dont get him to the vet then he will be dead in no time,, this virus is very nasty and awful death,,, so you need to get him to the vet asap!!!! untill then you need to force fluids down him with a eye dropper or syring every 1 hour,, also you need to get him some pydilyte that you give a baby that cant keep anything down and has diahrrea so you need to force fluids in him untill you can get him into a vet,,, I have had 2 pit bulls get parvo and they were fine one day and almost dead by the next morning and the vet gave them shots and told us to force fluids down them every hour untill they start drinking on their own,,, dont worry if he wont eat that is fine as long as you can get him to drink but you need to get that baby to the vet as soon as possiable,,, I hope this has helped and please take him to the vet and please let us know what was wrong with your pup,,,

You have GOT to get water into that dog. FAST He will die if you don't. Use a dropper or bottle and put in side of mouth. Take him to the Emergency Vet. This is very serious.

um hello, if youre taking him to the vet anyway then just ask the vet when you're there what you can do for your dog at home. rather trust your vet than someone over the internet.

Make a bee line to the vet's office. He is too young for you to wait it out.
