definetley ask her for a fish or something first and show her that you are able to care for an animal. Then she will understand how much you want a puppy. If you can't care for a fish then a puppy would not be a good idea. They are alot of work. Are you willing to get up in th middle of the night when it has to go out to go pee? Puppies are just like babies in that they need to get up in the night to.

I don't know you, but I've seen this situation.. the child swears that their responsible enough to take care of a dog, and then the mother has to take care of it. Go to an animal shelter and offer to walk the dogs and clean up after them. Give it a few months- long enough for the novelty to wear off. Then ask your mom agian, citing that you know how much work a dog entails. Or offer to pet sit for a friend or neighbor.

I know it stings now, but your mom really does know best- she was 16 once too!

I used to bring puppies and kittens home by a truckload, but I had to give them all back or away - wasn't allowed to have pets. Don't follow my example, you only break your own heart numerous times.
Talk to your mom and if she still won't let you have a pet, just wait until you're old enough to have it. I own three dogs right now and my house is full of love. Although I still hold a grudge against my guardians who wouldn't allow me to have pets as a child.

Your mom knows best. Dogs are more of a handful to care for than you might think. Start small. Get a goldfish and see if you can keep it alive for at least a few months.

i GUARANTEE you will not take care of that thing. the mom ALWAYS ends up doing it. i've seen it so many times it's ridiculous. you are not responsible enough to have a puppy. do you want to be getting up at all hours of the night to take it out? do you want to have to walk it and feed it and take it to the vet? didn't think so.

now go back to your sandbox and make me a nice sandcastle, child.

There really isn't a way to convince her. Just bide your time until your on your own. My husband was NEVER allowed to have a pet of any kind not even fish and had to wait until he moved out.

How old are you? Who will take care of the dog when you go to college? Your mom probably will -- because you can't take a dog with you -- so it has to be partially her decision as well.

Take up baby sitting to show your mom that you can take care of a living thing!
