forgot to ask...we're going to a few shelters today. so we'll find out for sure today. but what is adoption process like? is really hard to adopt a dog? i've watched the animal discovery channel...and on the animal cop shows...they make it out to be a VERY long, and hard, drawn out process. is it REALLY like that?

My rotti ***** had a litter of pups last night, the last one born was very small and week. I have managed to latch it on a few times but it only sucks a bit and just wants to sleep. Any ideas on how I can perk this pup up. I was thinking of getting some fomula from the vet to top her up.

we were originally going to buy a purebreed dog from a qualified breeder. but the more i think about it, the more i would like to adopt a dog. but more than likely, adopting a dog will mean, its probably not pure bred and is older, which means, it may have come from a bad background. i have a 3 month old baby to consider. ya know? but you hear storys of adopted dogs being the best dogs...maybe cause they know your helping them, your saving their lives. maybe not to that extent, but i know dogs can sense things....anyway. anybody have storys of adopted animal shelter dogs, good or bad, that they would share with me...?

My dog is very picky when it comes to stuffed animal toys. He has a bunch of them but he only plays with the porcupine one. And he already has a bed and hardly ever uses it. What should I get him (He's 10years old and a West highland white terrier)

My dog likes to like my skin, I wake up at night sometimes and he is licking my hand. He will lick my face if given the chance...The strange thing is that he won't lick other folks. What is the whole licking thing about? Does he like the taste of it, or what? I thought it was just me sweating but he continues to do it, now that it is cold here. Any explanation?

My older neighbor has asthma and emphysema.. His doctor said he could have a dog if it doesn't shed or have dandruff. Does anyone know of a small breed that would be suitable for him? His health is compromised so he needs one that isn't too high maintenance.

For me it is the fact that no matter how crappy my day was, he is ALWAYS there sitting and waiting and wagging his tail (actually whole backside LOL). To me that is worth all the stuff I need to do to take care of him. I can always rely on him for what he does.

Hi everyone! I am happy to say that I am adopting my 3rd dog! We will be driving out of state to pick up a darling just in time 2 have a home for Christmas from a high kill shelter just a couple days before D day for them! I am in between chosing 2 WONDERFUL dogs; a Beagle/Retriever mix and a Beagle/Cocker Spaniel mix.. can anyone tell me which would have a better temperament? I am looking for an affectionate laid back playful dog that will get along with my other dogs! I know the beagle can be hyper.. would the spaniel calm him down? What is the retriever's personality like? Either way, I am sponsoring 2 other dogs including the one I don't pick and will adopt the one that will fit best in my home! Wish I can take them both but I will make sure the others find a great home! I know with proper care both dogs will have the potential to be the perfect addition to our home! Please give me your input on the mixes.. and if anyone has owned a mix such as the ones I mentioned! Thank you

They are lovely animals, but they are just called 'Ma Thai' ie Thai Dog! I have a beautiful one called Lucky. She looks like an Abbysinian She Woolf or an Australian Dingo. (Google?)
France has the Poodle, Germany the Alsation etc, so what shall we call the Thai National Dog? Ma Thai is simply not good enough.

My mom went out to feed our dogs and found one of them laying in the yard. He can barely move, only seems to be able to lift his head a little bit. He also tries to move his legs, but he just can't get up. He seems to be breathing fine, but just groans when I can get him to wake up. He is drooling a lot and can't seem to open his eyes very much. The vet will not be open for a couple of hours, someone please help. This dog is only 6 months old.

than adopt them out? My last question was one of anger after attempting to 'rescue' several dogs. After reading the numerous responses from others that are angry over the 'strict' rules to adopt an animal.....it appears to me that they would rather put the animal down than to adopt them out. This could only be for one reason....for the money donated and acquired from any government funding..........>>> If you have time, please read my last question about my adoption attempt and all the responses from others that have had problems for ridiculous reasons. Thanks.

i fed my siberian husky grapes, before i found out that grapes and raisins could be toxic to dogs. i've noticed that my dog has been pee-ing a lot more often. though, i have only done it for 1 or 2 days. am i overly sensative? what should i do now, aside from stop feeding him grapes?

The pups were at home before we got the bigger one. She seemed to be getting along well with them till a few days ago. We initially thought she might have a urinary tract infection and gave her an antibiotic dosage. But it hasnt made any change and our vet says she doesn't seem to have any medical problem, that she just might want to urinate more. We take her out three to four times a day. Is that normal? As for urinating on the pups bed, is she being spiteful or just asserting herself as the alpha in the pack?

...farts so much? He's an 11 month old Boxer (my first). He's a great dog, smart, affectionate, good looking, but he'll just about run you out of the room. He's had all his shots, vaccinations, has no worms and the vet says he's in good health. I've tried several different kinds of dog food. Same outcome. Has anybody else run into this sort of thing? Serious question. I've had dogs all my life, and I know they fart. But I've never had one that was even CLOSE to this one in terms of frequncy and room-clearing pungency. It's pretty bad. Wondered if anyone knew of a diet adjustment or something that might help.

I'm a teen and I'm getting a dog next summer. I'd like a dog that's on the smaller side, though NOT teacup...
quiet, good for kids, trainable, and good for first timers. Iwas thinking of a cavalier king charles spaniel...would that work?
