My dog likes to like my skin, I wake up at night sometimes and he is licking my hand. He will lick my face if given the chance...The strange thing is that he won't lick other folks. What is the whole licking thing about? Does he like the taste of it, or what? I thought it was just me sweating but he continues to do it, now that it is cold here. Any explanation?

Combination of factors, but a combination of 'love' and juvenile licking (meaning he may do this instinctively or because he feels submissive & is licking for food.
It's a habit. If it annoys you, spray yourself with 'Bitter Apple' in the pump bottle.

In the wild the wolves lick the dominate male mostly on the nuzzle or in your case face. So the dog sees you as the leader of the pack.
