They get their tails docked at 3 to 5 days old. A experienced vet will have to do it. I would have it done at 3 days cause if they are big pups than the tails have to be cut longer than they should be. Some experienced breeders even band the tails ,where they put a band around the tail till it falls off .I could not do that myself and requires a person that knows what they are doing.

I'm not sure what you mean. Are you talking about clipping the tails on puppies? Only do this if the breed traditionally has a shortened or absent tail, and only have this done by a veterinarian experienced in the procedure.
Usually it's done within a few days of birth, because that's less painful for the puppy.
Hope this helps!

If you have to ask when to do it - you SHOULDN'T be doing it. If you insist on clipping your puppies tail, you need to take it to your vet. A good vet, however, wouldn't clip a puppies tail if weren't part of the breed standard and certainly not if the puppy is over a week old. Clipping is normally done when the pups are between 3-5 days old.

I have an Australian Shepherd that I got at 8 weeks old and her tail had been clipped when she was just 3 days old. Even now, it brings tears to my eyes...reminds me of little boys being circumcised - and how my nephew had to had plastic surgery to repair his botched circumcision. It's quite barbaric in my humble opinion. I would recommend you just leave your puppy the way he/she was born.

I hope you mean nails... therfore do that as soon as possible... get him used to it now....
Proper Foot Care
Proper foot care will keep your doggie dancing and help prevent unnecessary pain and infection later on. Most dogs don't like to have their feet handled, so go slowly—one paw at a time—and make foot handling a part of playtime.

Remove mats of hair from between the toes and pads of dogs with hairy feet; if ignored, the mats can become as hard as rocks. Then, using scissors, trim the hair between the pads and between the toes so it is level with the dog's foot.

Regular exercise on a hard surface may keep a dog's nails worn down. However, most domestic dogs will need to have their nails clipped every few weeks. If your dog has dewclaws (the smaller claw on the back of each leg, higher than the paws), those will always need clipping. If the nails or dewclaws are allowed to grow, they may curl inward into the skin and cause a painful infection.

Use nail clippers designed specifically for dogs. One type, known as the guillotine style, has a round opening for the dog's nail and a blade that slides across to clip the nail. Another type works like a pair of scissors. This type puts less pressure on the nail and is more comfortable for him. Make sure the blades are sharp.

Trim only the "hook" end of the nail. Clipping a nail too short can be painful and may cause bleeding. Frequent trimming of a small amount of nail always is better than waiting until the nail is long. Never trim into the quick—the live portion of the nail.

Why would you want to clip a dogs tail? It doesn't need done! That is mean and cruel! People are all up sett we dress our dogs... maybe they should be more worried about clipping a dogs tail. Why would you even consider that? You are sick!
