They are lovely animals, but they are just called 'Ma Thai' ie Thai Dog! I have a beautiful one called Lucky. She looks like an Abbysinian She Woolf or an Australian Dingo. (Google?)
France has the Poodle, Germany the Alsation etc, so what shall we call the Thai National Dog? Ma Thai is simply not good enough.

They are known as 'Soi' dogs, & in the rest of the world the breed is the Thai Ridgeback.
Yes, they are animal lovers (or, actually, don't want to possibly abuse someone's ancestor---a majority of the population, particularly in the north, is Buddist, & believe in reincarnation), and the middle class pet owners treat their pets well, but spaying & neutering have yet to catch on.

My mate has two. He lives in Chaing Mai. He calls them Ruby and Buddy. It was meant to be Ruby & Murray as in cockney rhyming for "curry" but none of his new family can pronounce Murray they all say buddy. They think it is all very weird giving dogs names. They view them as simple tools for guarding and keeping rats down. Probably why they haven't bothered with a "proper" name for the breed.
