Cats - December 2006

I have a white cat with blue eyes, he cross eyed, with poor vision, about 5 mo ago he started with drainage from his eyes no other symptoms, then the eyes got infected and I got Antibiotics from the Vet. it cleared up but is back still no other symptoms, I have come to the conclusion he is allergic to something, we live in the country and my cat stays outside all day and sleeps in at night, I have several other cats and they are fine. Now my question, I have some antibiotic eye drops (Polytrim OP ) from my 20 mo old son. I would like to stop this infection from getting worse do you think it would be safe to use these drops in my cats eyes? Or do you think I should just wait and call the Vet to be sure. Are cats sensitive to cedar or pine shavens? This is what the cat sleeps on.

One of my cats has a very unusual behavior since he was just a little baby. He sits in front of people, facing them, looking up to the person and moving the eyes and the head like he is very curious about something, he looks for about a minute, and the person notices the cat strange behavior and thinks its funny. Then suddenly the cat jumps to the knee and starts climbing the person leg very calmly(like he is doing nothing wrong, just climbing a tree or something), hurting the person a little because of the claws, looking up, them finally reaches the shoulder and just stays on top of it with the four legs almost together but he can keep the balance, looking all around and like ignoring the person. I THINK HE IS CURIOUS OF HOW IT WOULD BE TO BE ABLE TO SEE FROM UP THERE LIKE HUMANS DO! The “victims” of my cat are shocked by his behavior but find it funny at the same time.
Any story about your kittens you would like to share?

I've had cats for years, but I'm always paranoid about UTI's and such. She is a 2-3 y/o female and lately has been sleepy and not up to playing aggressively like she has before. She is also not meowing at me as much (aka bossing me around). Still eats and drinks and I can't see any blood in the urine or excessive straining.

Could it just be the weather change? I took her to the vet and her temp is normal and the dr said she doesn't feel any enlarged bladder.

Thanks!

Ok, I have some fake fluff snow type stuff around my christmas tree, and my two cats are trying to eat it! I know that cats don`t like citrus smell, so if i were to put some clemintine peel around the fluff, would the cats be unattracted to it? I`m pretty much asking if clemintine peel would work instead of orange peel (i don`t have any oranges at the moment) Please Help!!

I love my cat almost like a child. He is pretty good for the most part in my opinion and my boyfriend loves him too.But my boyfriend is getting mad because he has:scratched our leather couch, left scratches on our Amish made coffee table, chewed the edges off our lamps(which are lead but he wasn't hurt?) ran into my curio cabinet and my boyfriend is afraid he will break it eventually,a few other things and I guess the last straw was when he knocked over our Christmas tree and broke a few of our ornaments we got from vacation. What should I do,I don't want to get rid of my cat but I'm tired of my boyfriend taking it out on me when my cat does this stuff.Should I try to just find him a good home?

I recently started a "street cat rescue project" with website aimed at getting some kitties that lived on the street near my place into homes. It has live streaming video of the kitties 24 hours a day. When I first started, I thought I'd be sending most kitties straight to new homes, where they would then be given names so I only gave them temporary names while they were living on the street. As it turned out, most don't have homes yet, and the one I named Sami is now living with me, but problem is I already have a Sami so I need a new name for her....there is also a cat called Fluffy that needs a better name for obvious reasons! The site is http://www.kittiesinthehood.com and you will see Sami's pic on the front page....best pic of "Fluffy" is on the "kittiesneedanewhood" link. Please help me give these kitties great names ...it may make them more attractive to adopters.
I already adopted 8 myself, and really need help with the other 12!
Any ideas?
Thanks

I read in a book that complete-indoor cats can be dog-like. My cat is not a complete in-door cat, but he's still dog-like. I can't really explain it, but he just is.

We got a year-old male tabby from a neighbour who was never home; he was a bit neglected, and has taken a while to come out of his shell.

We got him neutered, got him his shots, etc; he'd never even seen a vet. He was, unsurprisingly, eating pretty cheap cat food. Now, he gets the hyper-premium stuff.

And, lots of petting and so on; he's even starting to play -- quite a lot of improvement in a fairly short time.

Anyway, his 'father' swears he has more, and longer, whiskers than he did at first. I think he's right about this; I don't remember him having much at all over his eyes, for example -- but I'm not sure. He mostly hid for the first few weeks, and all advice here (thanks) and elsewhere said to leave him alone and let him do his own thing, so -- well, we don't know him that well just yet!

Is it likely that the better care would mean better whiskers, or is it more likely that we're just fancying ourselves as oh-so-great cat caretakers and imagining it?

I have 3 cats, 2 are from the same litter. The two are both afraid of everything, especially loud noises. One of them, though, hides behind or under the couch and never comes out. He even pees on the carpet in his hiding place, even though 2 litter boxes are 5 feet away He hisses at my husband and anyone else who tries to approach him. My husband and I are very tired of finding pee under the couch. He's been doing this for almost 2 years now and we've had him checked for bladder infections earlier this year (negative). We don't mind that he hides all the time, we are just tired of the pee everywhere. He pees on clothes (if left on the floor), or a new couch. We tried pet spray, didn't help. Any suggestions would really help!! BTW - he's a tabby, shy of 2 years old. He's neutered but has all 4 claws. The third cat is a girl, 6 years old, we've had her for over a year. (his behavior started before we got her).

It came to my notice recently that a large tin of mackerel is cheaper than a large tin of Whiskas. My cat loves tinned fish (mackerel, tuna, pilchards, sardines etc). Does it contain everything nutritionally a cat needs?

We are going out of town for Christmas and bringing our cat. The car ride will be about 10 hours. Any suggestions on something I can give my cat to calm her down/make her sleep in the car? The vet told me liquid benadryl would work, anyone have experience with this?
